What does one usually aspire to be at five years old? Considering how distinct each child’s personality is, the environment he or she thrives in, and the interests that have him or her excited, the answer definitely varies. There’s no general answer like, “At five, most kids like sports” or “Five-year-olds typically enjoy their cartoons and playing with friends.” While those are just some of the many activities five-year-olds consider fun, you really can’t limit their interests and aspirations based on age alone.

Take Jessica Sutton, a star on the rise.

This beautiful five-year-old takes to the stage like a pro.

Her composure, confidence, and poise all scream star quality.

She dances like she’s been at it for years, and she carries herself so elegantly that you can’t help but think she’s way beyond her years.

Her dancing had the judges and audience completely bowled over that she bagged first overall in the Mini Lyrical Solo division at the Rainbox Dance Escondido 2020.

Her dance music completely defies all stereotypes, too. A five-year-old, dancing to Mariah Carey’s “Hero“? This we have to see.

The slow tempo of the classic hit, topped with the five-year-old’s graceful ballet and acrobatic dance movements, lit up the stage and had everyone sitting up and watching closely.

Sporting a blue leotard with gold embellishments, Jessica looked absolutely beautiful on stage with her hair pulled back in a tight bun.

She definitely took her cue from the pros: arched back, outstretched arms, pointed toes.

We can just image her coaches and choreographers beaming with pride as she waltzes and glides across the stage in time with the music.

Jessica showed no signs of stage fright or nervousness the entire time she was up there. The spotlight was on her and she seemed to love every minute of it. It was like the five-year-old was born to dance and perform.

The meaning of the song came alive as she transitioned from one step to another, moving smoothly about the wooden stage.

How does a five-year-old learn to dance so well? What motivates her to sacrifice a few hours of play for learning steps, rehearsing, and going on costume fittings? She must come from an incredibly supportive family who encourages her to pursue her passion and express herself through dance.

Jessica’s talent knows no bounds. While she maintained a serious, somewhat intense expression on her face as she danced about, you’ll catch the occasional smile from the dazzling little girl.

Without any of it looking stiffly rehearsed, the five-year-old showed off her flexibility as she did splits and leg raises effortlessly.

More than just a dancer, she has the makings of a rhythmic gymnast, too!

That’s why it’s important to really pay attention to what children want – not just to tap into their potential and possibly see them go places, but mostly to encourage them to be fearless in living their dreams and chasing their passions. In doing so, they’ll also develop discipline and responsibility as they learn.
