As a parent, you tend to see things a bit differently than your kids.

And that rift between your perspectives only gets bigger as the child gets older.

By the time your child is a teenager, it can feel like you don’t even speak the same language as them.

For one girl, she and her father are on very different pages about how her first day of high school should go.

In the video below, you can watch as Riley helplessly runs from her father while he chases her around campus with a video camera on her first day of high school.

Riley, obviously, is extremely embarrassed.

Your first day of high school is a big deal… at least in the minds of incoming freshmen.

They are worried about making friends, looking good, being cool, you know, all of the things that used to mean the world to us when we were teenagers.

So when her dad tries to snap a photo of her in front of the school on her first day, Riley wants none of it.

But for the dad, this is a momentous day.

His little girl, whom he’s watched grow from a tiny little infant, is now about to begin one of the most influential journeys of her young life.

And he’s going to do his best to document this big moment.

However, Riley wants nothing to do with this before-school photo and tries to walk off.

But dad isn’t giving up so easily.

He turns his phone from picture mode into video mode and starts to follow his daughter through the crowd of high schoolers that are standing around the front of the school.

The girl picks up her walk into a slight jog and does her best to keep her face down and out of sight from any potential onlookers.

Her dad can be heard saying, “We’re in a chase. Her first day of high school, she doesn’t want to be videoed but we’re gonna chase her down.”

The poor girl continues her run while people can be heard laughing in the background.

She sees the front door of the school and makes a dash for it.

Dad continues his video narration by saying, “She won’t stand for her picture… Riley running into school.”

She finally reaches the door and flings it open, sliding inside as quickly as possible.

As she does so, her dad stops his chase and just says, “Bye, Riley.”

You can’t help but feel a little bad for Riley here.

Although you know that the embarrassment she’s feeling won’t be such a big deal to her in the future, when it’s happening, it can be pretty awful for a young girl to go through.

Hopefully, as she gets older and the embarrassment starts to fade, she’ll be able to appreciate this video for all of its hilarious cringy-ness and realize that her dad is only doing it because he loves her.

Not only is it something that the whole family can laugh about, but it also documents a very special time in her young life.
