Most of us could never imagine what it’s like for a parent to lose their child. It’s something no one should have to endure. But Lisa Healion Meyer found some solace in the death of her daughter Logan thanks to an outpouring of support on the internet after she shared the story of her family’s struggle.
She shared the story of her daughter’s premature birth with Love What Matters before her daughter passed.
“We are deeply touched that so many people from around the world love our daughter so much, and have reached out to let us know they are praying for us,” she told Love What Matters. “It is really comforting knowing we are not in this alone and that Logan has left a legacy of love.”
When Lisa got pregnant with Logan, everything seemed normal up until her twenty-first week of pregnancy. She started spotting which her doctor didn’t think was out of ordinary but the bleeding started getting heavier.
Eventually, it caused her to contract and before she knew it she was 3 centimeters dilated.
“The doctors tried to have me taken into surgery to sew up the cervix and stop labor, but my water broke and an infection was discovered so they had to give me Pitocin so that my body didn’t go into septic shock,” Lisa told Love What Matters. “The doctors warned me that unfortunately, the age of viability is closer to 24 weeks and that Logan would probably not make it out of the delivery room.”
Her daughter was given a 1 percent chance that she would survive the birth.
They asked if they would rather hold their daughter until her heart stopped beating so they could have some time with her while she was still alive.
“They were going to provide us with a cooling cot to keep her body from decomposing. We were devastated,” Lisa said. “We decided that the 1% chance was worth it. We wanted the doctors to try and save her.”
So they did, and Logan was able to breathe with the help of ventilators. Logan’s family went back and forth to the NICU while her parents also cared for their 2-year-old and 9-year-old and tried to attend to their jobs.
Lisa’s story ended up going viral and Logan received an outpouring of well wishes and prayers.
Unfortunately, as hard as she fought, Logan ended up passing away peacefully in her parent’s arms.
“It makes us happy to know that Logan touched so many lives and through this experience Ben and I learned how many amazing people there are in this world. Thank you all again,” Lisa said.
The internet is continuing to support the family in light of Logan’s passing and are contributing to a Meal Train for the family where people purchasing food to be delivered to the family so they don’t have to cook during their time of mourning.
So far, they will have meals through March 28. You can contribute to the Meal Train here.
