Children learn from their parents and vice versa.

Most people say that the skills and talent are due to their parents’ genes.

If you’re good at sports, people would say your parents are probably athletes or at least sporty. If you’re good at singing or playing instruments, then your parents are probably musicians.

But some of us acquired skills by learning them.

Parents send kids to voice and dance lessons hoping they will be good at something they probably won’t get genetically.

Since children have this formative stage, they may acquire particular talents and skills through training and constant practice.

Lil Hunter Kelly, though, acquired his talent in comedy through both.

His father, Gerald Kelly, is a stand-up comedian. Dropping punchlines at the best timing probably runs in the blood. But he learned a lot of it from his father, too.

People would think they could be a tremendous father-and-son duo.

While most parents would go as a pair in talent shows, the Kelly’s are different.

Both Gerald and Hunter auditioned for America’s Got Talent but not as a tandem. They went as rivals.

Their banter from behind the cam alone will make you laugh but wait until you hear their audition piece.

Gerald went first and introduced himself.

His skit was relatable to most parents, especially those who have a son and a daughter. He compared what a vast difference his daughter is from his son.

One of those differences is how little girls come in school looking all tidy and going home in that same manner while his little boy goes to school all neat and clean and returns home as if he just passed through a storm.

He got lots of laughs and cheers from the audience and the judges.

Howie commented that he didn’t like the material, though he loved Gerald. Simon was also looking for that dynamic end that was missing in his skit.

Sofia and Heidi, however, loved it. In the end, Gerald got ‘yes’ from all four judges.

Then, Lil Hunter walked in and introduced himself.

That’s when Sofia noticed that he had the same family and confirmed if Gerald was his father. He said ‘yes’ but added that he could be better than his father.

Hunter started his skit praising his dad, but that did not last long.

He then continued his skit, telling America how his dad is ‘a loser because he (Hunter) is seven, but they have the same job’! This sent all the judges laughing. He even got a standing ovation from Howie.

There were moments that Hunter seemed nervous and stalled.

But he picked himself up and continued with his comedy piece and ended with a bang.

In the end, the judges applauded this young man’s talent, who might have bested his father that night. He, too, got through the next round.

This father-son rivalry may be new to us, but we love the fun and laughter they bring.
