As a parent, we all know the stress of trying to enjoy a nice meal out when one of your children just isn’t in the mood.
If a child is feeling emotional, it doesn’t matter where you are, or how much you’ve just spent on that overpriced burger and chips.
If they’re going to cry, then they’re going to cry.
A mom from Mississippi named Amy Wadford knows all about the struggles of taking your kids out when they’re feeling emotional- since she has six of them!
One day, Amy and her partner decided to take their kids out to eat at a local restaurant named Fernando’s, in Magee.
One of Amy’s children, named Brekken, wasn’t in the mood for sitting and eating with the family.
In fact, he was much more interested in the man sitting across from them- and he couldn’t understand why his mom wouldn’t let him go and sit with him.
“I’m not sure who this man is and I’m sure he just wanted to eat his meal in peace but Brekken had other plans,” Amy shared in a now-viral Facebook post thanking the man. “We took all 6 kids to eat at Fernando’s and all Brekken wanted was to eat with him. He was continuously crying and as I got up to take him to the car this man asked to get him.”

The kind man could see that Brekken was feeling upset, and since Amy had five other kids to look after, he did something truly selfless and asked if he could take Brekken off her hands.
Naturally, Brekken was overjoyed to get to spend some time with this interesting stranger.
“Brekken instantly stopped crying and sat and ate chips and salsa and had a conversation with him until he was ready to go,” Amy recalled. “Brekken was completely content and told him bye like he had known him his whole life. It’s the small things!”
Brekken and the man chatted away, and once the man had finished his meal, the little boy was much calmer. He then happily returned to sit with his family.
Thanks to the man’s kindness, a situation which could have resulted in Amy having to drive home with one of her sons was completely flipped on his head!

“If you know him, please tell him again I said thank you. He didn’t have to do what he did but completely made Brekken’s whole day,” Amy concluded on her Facebook post.
She then added a picture of Brekken sitting happily with the man as they both enjoyed their food together.

After the post went viral, the man has since been identified as Darius West- and according to Amy, the friendship is only just beginning, as Darius and her son now speak regularly.
This is truly human kindness at its best. If only there were more people like Darius in the world!
