Children rely on their parents for so many things. To begin with, as newborn babies, they’re helpless without a mom or dad to feed them, bathe them, and respond to their cries. Growing up, children benefit from their parents’ emotional support on a day-to-day basis.
But sometimes, the roles can reverse, and instead of the parent being the caregiver, the responsibility is left to a child.
This happened to one little boy, Tyrion Neal, when he found his mom unconscious on the floor of his home.
Tyrion’s mom, Jasmine, has epilepsy. She lives alone with 5-year-old Tyrion in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
Though she occasionally had epileptic seizures, none had been so serious as the one she was about to experience.
It just so happened that Jasmine’s little boy would discover her in time to save her life in the most clever way possible.
Back in mid-September, Jasmine had set up an Alexa to allow Tyrion to call his grandma, Natalie, whenever he fancied.
Natalie lives quite a distance from her daughter and grandson, and Jasmine figured this would be a simple way for the pair to keep in touch.
Speaking to WPVI-TV, Natalie explained how she backed the idea, recalling:
“I just thought for you know, him to tell me, ‘Hey grandmom, I love you. Hey Gigi, I love you.'”
But less than a week and a half later, Tyrion would call his grandma with a much more serious issue at hand.
According to Natalie, when she accepted the call, Tyrion was crying too much for her to understand him. At first, she thought he was laughing and being silly – but quickly realized that the little boy was panicking. She said:
“I’m telling him to calm down and he told me he couldn’t wake his mom up. So, of course being her mom, my heart kind of fell to the ground a little bit.”
Brave Tyrion had saved his mom’s life by calling his grandma.
Natalie was able to talk to Tyrion and calm him down while she rang for an ambulance, asking for it to be sent to her daughter’s home.
Thanks to Tyrian’s quick thinking, his mom, Jasmine, is doing just fine. After a short stay in hospital, she’s on the mend – and she knows it’s all down to her clever son.
Sharing a post to Facebook about her ordeal, she wrote:
“So I’m in the hospital again. This boy saved my life!!! I’m so so so proud of him. He’s my hero. He’s saved my life twice now.
“If not for him I wouldn’t be here in so many ways. He’s my reason for fighting pushing and boy giving up and for everything else. I’m so proud of you my prince. I love you higher than the sky, deeper than the sea, around the world, and back again, forever and ever.”
The post is accompanied by a photo of Jasmine and Tyrian cuddling up together, Tyrian smiling while Jasmine kisses his cheek.
It’s safe to say that the outcome could have been a lot different if Tyrian didn’t call his grandma on his Alexa.
Perhaps he might have called 911, but he would have felt a lot safer seeking comfort from a family member. And with the advantage of Natalie knowing about Jasmine’s condition, she was able to call for an ambulance and explain the situation.
Tyrian is a little hero! His mom must be incredibly proud to have him as her little guardian angel.
