As parents, we know it is our responsibility to raise good adults out of our children.
This is a role we accept from Day 1. However, there are moments when we realize that sometimes, it is our kids who make us better people.
In a YouTube video uploaded by the channel Lomelino Family, a little girl is seen to be talking seriously about her Dad’s attitude towards kids. The little girl in the video is fondly called GG Bear.
And her Dad, whom she was talking to in the video, is Pastor Jason Lomelino of Isla Vista Church and Mission Isla Vista. Pastor Jason and GG belong to a family of nine who also has three dogs. The family lives in a 2-bedroom house in California.
We don’t know what happened before the clip was taken, but it was something that GG Bear definitely wanted to talk about to her dad. She was a serious little girl as she discussed the matter with him.
It appears she pulled her father to one side of the house to have a serious conversation about his attitude.
“I don’t like how you’re saying these stuff,” GG began. “Why is you being pretty mean to Hope?” she said further, referring to her sister.
Before the video was filmed, Hope was probably scolded by Dad and GG must have not liked how her sister was reprimanded. She wanted to let her father know about her thoughts, and he was glad to have the talk and to explain things to his daughter.
GG knew her father was mad, which Dad said was because Hope was not being nice. However, GG still had something to say to him.
“And Dad, you do not be nice a lot of times to the kids, except for Isaac and me and your wife,” GG further said.
Things are now getting a bit clearer to dad, who figured out what his daughter is trying to tell him.
“So, sometimes, I have attitude. Is that what you’re trying to say?” he asked.
GG responded with a resounding “Yes!” Now, Dad is trying to get her opinion on what he should try to do with Hope’s attitude.
“Okay, what do you think I should do with Hope’s attitude then?”
GG still believes her father was kind of mean to her sister and thought that he might be making a bad choice.
Dad tries to explain how hard it is being a Dad and how he wants to make good choices for his kids.
The little girl does not back down and makes a good reminder to her father.
“Dad, that is why God gave me you and Isaac. That’s why, so then we can have talks with you and make you good to the kids.”
At this point, Dad finally knew why GG was so intent on talking to him.
Talking to his little girl reminded him of that.
“You’re right, you do help me to be a better Dad,” he said. “I believe this, I believe this. You have helped me to be a better Dad.”
He might be thinking he’s being a father and doing what he thinks is the best choice for his kids. But, God wanted to remind him thru GG that he might be forgetting something. And that his children make him a better Dad, too.
Listening to what your kids have to say is very important.
He wants to make his kids better people, but that does not work one way. In return, the kids make it possible for him to be a better Dad as well. And him, listening to GG and his other kids, is always a good decision.
