Every kid dreams of being a superhero. Running around in brightly colored tights and a mask and saving the world from danger. Like any other three-year-old, Savannah Lavely had dreams of being a superhero— but, in this special case, she didn’t need a cape or a mask to do it.

One evening, this past June, Savannah, her mother Jessa, and their dog Juno were taking an evening walk around the neighborhood.

Jessa, a Warren, Michigan native, has a history of seizures, and she started feeling a bit weird during their walk. “I felt a little funny,” she told WXYZ. “I have a history of seizures, so I felt a little off.” Savannah and her mother rushed to get home, hoping to get there before anything happened. Sadly, before they arrived, Jessa collapsed onto the sidewalk. In an interview with ABC News, she said:

“We were about a block and a half from our house when I fell to the ground and started having a seizure.”

Although this could have been a life-threatening situation, Savannah’s quick thinking saved the day.

When the little girl saw Jessa collapse, she immediately started making her way home to get help for her seizing mother.

Afterward, Jessa told Fox News: “She actually retraced her steps home rather going the short way. I asked her did you look for cars and she said she did… We’re still a bit shocked that she was able to find her way home. We’ve never talked to her about it and she doesn’t go on a ton of walks. And the fact that she could pick out the house because they all look the same.”

Three-year-old Savannah managed to retrace her steps all the way home, where she pounded at the door until her grandmother answered.

“I opened the door and there she was,” Jessa’s mother Jan Fleming told Fox News.

“She said, ‘You need to come quickly. My mommy fell, and she can’t get up.”

When Savannah pounded on the door, it triggered the home’s security system which alerted her father at work. At the time, Steven Lavely had no idea what was happening, and the sight of his daughter alone immediately struck him with fear. “I was scared,” he said. “I didn’t know if my wife was okay. I was scared that my daughter ran home by herself. She was a block and a half away.”

After finding her way home, Savannah then managed to guide her grandmother back to where Jessa had collapsed. There, they found Jessa, with Juno guarding her side.

By this point, a neighbor had seen Jessa sprawled on the sidewalk and had contacted 911. Thankfully, in the end, everybody was okay. After everything, Jessa is blown away by the maturity her daughter exhibited in such a scary situation. “It was almost like instinct for her,” the mother told ABC News.

“It gave me a lot of anxiety thinking about all the bad things that could have happened, but then I was just super proud of her.”

Since everything has happened, people have been calling Savannah a hero— and even though she’s only three, Jessa says she realizes the magnitude of her actions.

“She understands what she did and everyone has been praising her,” Jessa said.

“She’s only 3 years old, that’s something,” her proud father added.
