Flight delays happen. Whether it’s due to a plane arriving late, carry-on luggage needing to be checked in, or the plane not passing an initial security inspection, no one likes to hear that their flight is delayed.
The inconvenience of flight delays throws everything off schedule. You risk being late for work, arriving home in an untimely manner (think during the holidays), or starting your dream vacation late.
It’s disappointing, but it happens.
Sometimes you are fortunate enough to endure a flight delay for only 20 minutes. Other times, you are forced to deal with it for hours, as is the case for these passengers.
Kari Mann, a flight attendant, was supposed to work a flight to New Orleans.
However, the flight was soon delayed for maintenance – after the passengers were boarded. The flight was delayed for five hours.
If you haven’t experienced a flight delay after you have been boarded, be thankful. You would think that the passengers are free to stroll around the airport, dining at restaurants or doing last-minute souvenir shopping to pass the time.
That is not the case.
Once you are boarded, you cannot leave the boarding gate. The furthest you can get is the end of the walkway as you exit the plane.
As you can imagine, it’s hard to entertain yourself when you’re sitting in a cramped space for five hours.
However, Kari found a solution.
“I started talking to the passengers and realized we had a barbershop quartet in our presence. I asked them to sing and most of the passengers began video taping!” Kari writes in the description of her viral video.
In the video below, you can hear the men beautifully harmonizing to the classic song “Under the Boardwalk” by The Drifters.
“It was such a great moment… The mood changed and our passengers were awesome for the whole 5 hours they were on the plane!” Kari adds in her video description. “One of my favorite moments!!! Thank you to Port City Sound for creating a wonderful memory!!!”
Some of the 7 million viewers of the video so far also got to share in the “great moment” The Port City Sound quartet created.
Kari commented on her viral video as well, thanking everyone for their support:
All in all, the Port City Sound quartet turned a tedious 5-hour flight delay into a somewhat entertaining one. Kudos to them and their talent!
I hope I see them on my next flight!
