Parents who spend eight hours at work every day know what it’s like to constantly miss their little and not-so-little ones. If being a few kilometres apart from your kids already tugs on your heart strings and makes you wish time would speed up a bit, imagine how much more difficult it is for parents who need to work overseas or be away from home for months.
This is what men and women in the service have to endure – the pang of sadness and longing that absence and distance bring.
And because it takes remarkable strength to survive months away from their loved ones, these dedicated parents always find opportunities to make up for lost time.
In fact, there are countless stories of how moms and dads in the service conjure up unique surprises for their kids and even their pets. Whether it’s through a mock school interview, a seemingly ordinary evening at home, or a school program, parents always find ways to reunite with their children again.
Check out this military dad who shows just how wonderful surprises truly are.
His seven-year-old daughter was a participant in the school talent show along with two of her friends. It seemed like your typical school program until the audience saw the girls’ introduction.
Walking confidently towards center stage, the trio are seen holding up a sign that says, “Thank you to all our veterans and those who serve.”
Then, the shy little girl starts telling the audience how she wants to dedicate their number to her dad. She hesitates and fumbles a bit but her friends help get the message across.
Dressed in adorable matching black outfits, the three young performers begin their dance routine with The Script’s “Hall of Fame” as their chosen audio backdrop. They demonstrated their choreography, moving and gliding about the stage, keeping in time with the beat of the song. With hip-hop and street dance inspired moves, the three girls were definitely a delight to watch.
They were charming and confident, and they absolutely rocked their costumes.

But the dancing just wasn’t the best part.
As the girls wrapped up their dance number and prepared to walk off the stage, they heard a voice calling them back.
It was the excited dad in his complete uniform, bouquets of flowers in hand!
Shocked and overjoyed, the excited little girl immediately ran back with her friends and met her father in a tight embrace.
Her pals joined in on the warm hug, too! It was such a sight to see, and hearts were definitely melting all over the room.
In just a span of two minutes, the audience witnessed one incredible occurrence after the other. First, a sweet dedication for the girls’ introduction, a great show of friendship before, during, and after the performance, and of course, the wonderful surprise thought up by the military dad.
What could be more beautiful than father and daughter reunited once more?
