The world was taken by surprise when a “little” boy was born weighing an astonishing 14 pounds!
But what makes this birth even more heartwarming is the incredible story behind this tiny giant.
Cary and Tim Patonai had been on a long and emotional journey to welcome a third child into their family.
For many, the joy of parenthood comes easily, but for the Patonais, it was a path filled with heartbreak.
Cary opened up to TODAY about the significance of their son, Finnley’s, arrival.
It’s a story that’s made headlines far and wide.
The heart-wrenching truth is that Cary and Tim had faced 19 miscarriages during their quest to grow their family.
Two of the miscarriages occurred while trying for their 3rd child, and the other 17 were prior to having their toddler.
Miscarriages are devastating events, and enduring one is challenging enough.
For the Patonai family, facing 19 was the toughest challenge they had ever encountered.
The couple is already blessed with two children, Devlen, who is 10, and Everett, aged 2.
Cary shared a particularly sad detail, revealing to TODAY:
“Two of the miscarriages were sets of twins. It was traumatic for the whole family — especially our oldest child. Each loss would shatter his young heart.”
Despite the hardships, the Patonais are overjoyed with their family.
Observing their children’s birth weights, one can spot an interesting trend.
Devlen weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces at birth, while Everett tipped the scales at 11 pounds, 11 ounces.
With such a pattern, one could only wonder about the size of their third child!
Well, turns out the size of their babies did indeed continue to increase.
Finnley’s birth weight was officially recorded at 14 pounds, 1 ounce.
But here’s the kicker: he could have been even bigger!
Due to concerns about his size, doctors decided to induce Cary’s labor early.
Had Finnley been carried to full term, he might have weighed an estimated 16.5 pounds.
Cary humorously remarked,
“I’m used to carrying big babies, but this was on another level. It got to the point where I could hardly move. It would take me 30 minutes to recover from taking a shower.”
Typically, newborns weigh between 6-9 pounds.
But Finnley? He’s in a league of his own.
Because of his size, he’s already outgrown the usual newborn stages.
At just two weeks old, he’s wearing clothes meant for babies aged 6-9 months.
And his appetite matches his size!
While most newborns consume one to two ounces of milk, Finnley guzzles down around four-and-a-half ounces.
Regardless of his size, Finnley is the apple of his parents’ eyes.
They are head over heels in love with their “little” boy, who’s been a beautiful addition to their family.
Cary playfully mused about the possibility of Finnley growing up to be a WWE wrestler, but one thing is certain:
“Our family is finally complete. He’s absolutely perfect.”
For those curious to see the adorable Finnley, there’s a video available that showcases this little wonder.
His story shows the enduring spirit of hope and love, and it’s one that deserves to be shared far and wide.
