Christine Corbitt says she is done with having babies now that’s she’s given birth to the biggest baby that her doctor has ever delivered. She was used to delivering big babies as her first two babies were 9 and 10 lbs.
But her third was born at 13 lbs. and 5 ounces.
So, she’s had enough. She knew her stomach was abnormally large before she gave birth but she figured that her baby would be around 10 lbs.
“Towards the end of my pregnancy, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh. She’s just so huge,'” Corbitt told Action News Jax.
She had no idea that Carleigh Brooke Corbitt would be so big when delivered by C-Section.
Corbitt says that she heard the doctors laugh when the baby was delivered and that “it looked like they pulled a toddler out of my belly.”
“I’ve had nine and 10-pound babies and I figured maybe she’d be 10 pounds. I’d have another 10-pound baby, but she was a surprise,” Corbitt said.
What’s even more shocking is that Carleigh could have been even bigger.
She was born about six days earlier and could have grown in those few days. Her dad, Larry Corbitt, says she wore size 3 diapers when she was born.
Carleigh is the biggest baby that Dr. Eric Edelenbos has ever delivered.
Even he was shocked by what he saw when he was delivering the baby.
“When the baby was coming out, I was like, ‘Is this baby ever going to end?’ Everybody in the room kind of just stopped during the delivery and was like, ‘Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh,’” Edelenbos said.
The NICU kept Carleigh for longer than they usually keep babies so that they could check her blood sugar levels.
Doctors said that babies have been larger over the last few years because of diabetes.
Carleigh was released when all her tests showed that she was healthy. She was very healthy and doing fine at her three-week appointment. As for Corbitt, she says that she needs some rest.
“I’m done. I’m done. No more babies for me,” she said with a smile.
While a baby of this size is rare, it’s not totally unheard of.
“Congrats,to you All. Shes beautiful!! By the way my baby brother weighed exactly the same!!! In 1974. God bless you,” said one Twitter user.
