Birth control methods are made to prevent pregnancies.
It’s a practical way for couples who are not ready to be parents yet.
However, with all the ways to prevent a pregnancy, there will always come a time that it will fail. Just take it from this mom who was failed by contraceptive pills, not just once, not twice, but three times.
Hannah Donaghue was just 18 years old when she was first failed by contraceptive pills.
She told Mail Online:
“I was 18 and living in a one-bedroom flat with my boyfriend, so it certainly wasn’t planned and I was nowhere near ready to start a family.”
But the early pregnancy didn’t startle her as she’d worked in a nursery. She took in motherhood right off the bat and gave all the love in the world to her first daughter, Megan.
Hannah decided to switch her pill.
She made sure to take it religiously at the same time every day. She wanted to be extra careful because she didn’t plan on adding a new member to their family so soon.
However, things didn’t go as planned:
“But just two months later, I felt a familiar twinge and realised my period was late – it couldn’t have happened again, surely?”
—
“When I saw those two little blue lines in the window I almost fainted. I had no idea how we’d cope and was dreading having to explain to people what had happened again when I was on the pill.”
Thankfully, Hannah’s mom was very supportive and didn’t leave her side so everything went smoothly. She then gave birth to another wonderful princess, Charlie.
From contraceptive pills, she switched to the contraceptive implant.
Unfortunately, after eight years, she started to have problems with it so she went back to pills again.
She also parted ways with her then-boyfriend and really wasn’t looking to having a new partner in life. Until she met an old friend at a party.
“But then I bumped into Ben at a party. I’d known him years earlier and there was definite chemistry between us, and that night we ended up going home together.”
She was worried about the pills failing her for the third time. She was relieved when her period came in normally, but just two weeks after – she noticed something strange.
“…I woke up feeling something wet in my pajama bottoms. I looked down and there was blood everywhere.”
She went to the hospital and had herself checked. She was shocked when doctors told her she might be pregnant. To verify that, the sonographer started to run a scan on her stomach.
There were 3 heartbeats.
“I couldn’t believe it – and neither could Ben. I hadn’t even been expecting to fall pregnant with one baby again – let alone three.”
The three little angels were non-identical to each other, which means all of them had been conceived from a different egg.
Ben even jokingly said:
“We’re going to need a limo for all these.”
The couple was also given a reduction as a suggestion.
Hannah wanted to keep all their three babies and she’s so glad Ben agreed with her decision.
After 32 weeks, she delivered sisters Ella Rose, Kasey, and their brother Lester via Caesarian operation. There have been a lot of adjustments since then but they’re all glad everything went well.
She’s also decided to get rid of the pills and vowed to accept whatever life would bring their family.
“But we do have five little miracles to thank it for – they were obviously meant to be.”
