The most challenging responsibility given to moms and dads would be raising their children to be good people. From the moment they are born, this responsibility increases as the kids become teens and eventually adults.
As the years go by, each kid has a different way of coping with life, and parents are faced with this addition to the already daunting task of being in charge of the character building of another human.
Niya Williams is a mom of four and she knows how hard it is to look after four different minds and attitudes as they grow older.
This mom is certainly trying her best in her role as a parent. But, as much as she did not want to hear about her kids misbehaving, she was not spared of this when her middle child, 10th grader Amaurryon Johnson, was suspended from school for five days.
The San Joaquin County mom knew she had to give her son a punishment, and she had the best idea in mind.
Instead of taking away his gadgets or keeping him grounded, Niya thought about teaching her son a valuable lesson as part of his punishment.
“I just thought of something, you know what can I do for my son as a punishment,” she said.
She assigned Amaurryon the task of mowing their lawn, which comprised of using the lawnmower and grass cutter until the lawn was free from unwanted plants and weeds. It was something that the young man eventually found refreshing.
Even after his suspension, Nyia made sure that her son continued to do yard work and he was not freed from his assignment that summer until the yard was completely done.
“My yard is already done, he’s done the yard perfect all summer since the first time he got suspended,” Nyia shared with FOX 40.
Her yard was done, but Nyia has something more amazing for her son to accomplish.
Amaurryon may have reached his goal of cleaning their family lawn, but his mom wanted him to learn another lesson aside from manual labor. She wanted him to know the importance of giving back.
And so, Nyia posted on Facebook about her son giving free yard services for the elderly and disabled.
To the woman’s surprise, lots of people found her initiative inspiring and took them up on the offer.
“I just thought it was such an awesome thing that she was doing,” Stephanie Cruz, one of the neighbors, said. “I just thought we can help and save a couple of hours to help her teach her son what she wanted to do.”
The young man worked on one lawn at a time – and was able to help various people who were having a hard time doing all the work because of their conditions.
What started out as a punishment ended up as a blessing, not only to the people helped by Amaurryon but to the young man himself.
“I really appreciate this from her, I don’t really know what to say,” Amaurryon said. “After doing one or two I started liking it.”
Nyia hopes that by teaching him a lesson this way, her son will continue to do good and be good.
