You probably heard about this but let me share it with you anyway. Do you know what they say about someone never fully knowing the struggles of parenting unless they become parents themselves? Well, that is certainly spot-on.

Simply explaining it and telling stories about it won’t ever be enough to make non-parents understand the full extent of being in charge of raising another person. So, this mom of four decided to share what parenting actually looks like.

A woman named Bri James uploaded her first video on her TikTok account that triggered online discussions about parenting.

She posted a video of her family home after her four kids created a huge mess in just a span of four days. She wrote:

“This is what happens when two really lazy adults have four kids and don’t clean up after themselves…I have not done dishes or picked things up and this is what my house looks like.”

Bri’s intention in uploading the video was to spark motivation in herself to clean up the mess and get over being “lazy” and finally get rid of all the clutter her kids made. She actually expected to receive negative comments and opinions on her video, but she never thought that people online would react so much.

Not dirty, only messy

She said that the house is not dirty, just messy, and gave everyone a clear view of the chaos inside their home. Clothes were everywhere. There are piles of unwashed dishes on the countertop and sink. Toys were everywhere to be found.

Trash bins were in the middle of the kitchen floor, beside the kid’s shoes and bicycle. Blankets and toilet paper were next to each other near the refrigerator. In plain words, she gave everyone a long, hard glimpse of her messy abode.

People online had posted tons of negative comments on the uploaded video, citing that the house is indeed dirty.

One commenter said:

“That’s dirty. Just because there isn’t mold on the walls doesn’t mean it’s not.”

Other posts were comments about how keeping the home clean is a parent’s responsibility, with these people even sharing their experiences growing up in a dirty home and having trauma because of it.

Of course, there are also commenters who felt that the kids were to blame for all the mess.

Although most comments are negative, there are also people who can understand the parents’ situation in this case.

Other commenters who are also parents have written that they can relate to Bri’s situation and that their kids can even achieve that much mess in a few hours.

To address everyone’s comments and to really meet her goal of making herself accountable for all the mess, she posted four more videos of herself cleaning the house. In some of the clips, she was even assisted by her daughter, making it a nice video where kids are taught to be responsible for their mess.

Parents don’t always have everything under control, especially with four little people under their care. Bri has her reasons for why she posted the video, however people online are still keen on telling her to do better. Guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion, right?
