It’s swimsuit season, and for many women, there’s nothing more refreshing than some well-deserved cynicism about swimsuits.
That’s where Kirsten Hensley and Jen Smedley come in.
This very funny pair of mothers started the popular Facebook page Imomsohard, a collection of hilarious posts and videos about motherhood. With material that’s two parts sardonic wit and one part sage advice, Kirsten and Jen are clearly striking a chord with their fellow moms; they’ve attracted over 1,000,000 followers and a Yoplait sponsorship.
They recently released a new video, “I Swimsuit Season So Hard,” about the impossible, awkward choices that mothers are faced with when it comes to choosing a swimsuit. It’s already been viewed 18,000,000 times, and it’s not hard to see why.
“What’s with these cut outs? Isn’t the whole idea to keep everything in?” complains Kirsten. She’s on the left, sporting a black swimsuit that “looks like you’re pressing something against a tennis racket.”
“It looks like that swimsuit was designed by…” Jen pauses, searching for the right name.
“Spiderman?” Kirsten guesses. She tries on her assertive mother voice.
“Get out of the water! You don’t have an adult with you!” she yells to a fictional child. “You can’t discipline in this,” she concludes.
Jen isn’t overjoyed about her suit either.
“This gives me four complete butt cheeks!” she notes, amazed.
But jokes aside, Kirsten and Jen offer comfort to their fellow moms.
“Nobody thinks they look perfect, ever!” says Jen. “Let’s just all go to the beach-“
“-and have a good time!” Kirsten finishes.
So, they go put on the kind of outfits they would actually wear to the beach.
“Well this is real life,” says Jen.
“This is how I go to the beach,” says Kirsten. “My kids think I’m awesome.”
“I want my daughter to love her life and to love herself, but she’s not gonna do it because I tell her to do it. She’s gonna do it because I teach her to do it,” she adds.
But, of course, the comedians couldn’t let the video get too sentimental.
“I would love a revenge body, but I’ll take a f*** it attitude,” says Kirsten, back in an unflattering swimsuit.
