A frightening encounter almost occurred at an Irvine, California residence after a burglar entered a home in the middle of the day. The nanny and the little boy she was caring for were away running errands. When the two finally returned home, she luckily realized quickly that something was wrong.
After going through the front door, the little boy doesn’t notice a thing and proceeds to go the living area. Nanny Jenna Lee Baker quickly shouted the three-year-old boy’s name to get his attention and ran towards him to whisk him to safety.
Security cameras captured footage of the break-in and the moment when Jenna and the boy came back and quickly grabbed the little boy in her arms. She quickly went running to the neighbors to get the both of them to safety and contact emergency services.
The security camera footage offers a clear look on the burglar. When he entered the house, he immediately noticed Jenna’s purse and dumped all of its content on the kitchen counter. The criminal then proceeded to check the entire house for any valuable belongings, including the children’s room.
“Something wasn’t right”, Jenna recalls. It was at that moment that she heard the burglar coming down the stairs, and Jenna and the boy were literally just a second away from a confrontation after she grabbed the boy.
The whole thing must have spooked the home intruder, as another security camera caught him fleeing the premises just a moment later.
“It was sheer panic”, the nanny adds.
The little boy’s dad and owner of the home Jonathan Lai couldn’t praise super nanny Jenna enough, and has even referred to her as a “rock star”.
“What she did for my son, and what she does daily, it’s unbelievable and I am so grateful that she is in our lives.”
Understandably, the man was very uncomfortable about the burglary. It is an unreal feeling to realize an unknown person was snooping around in the rooms of your little children.
“To have him going into my kids’ rooms, it’s the (most scary) thing to me,” Jonathan said.
Unfortunately, the burglar hasn’t been caught and brought to justice yet. Police are hoping to locate the man thanks to the clear camera footage.
Jenna herself is glad that no one got hurt and doesn’t consider her actions to be heroic, but rather something that she just needed to do.
“I don’t see myself as a hero. I love him. You know when his parents are away, they put their trust in me to keep him safe.”
