Grace had informed the school officials that her baby was expected after her graduation date, on December 15.

However, life had a sweet surprise in store.

“Annabelle decided to come early on Dec. 6,” Grace shared with the school officials.

Despite the early arrival, Grace was resolute in her decision to attend the graduation.

“But I’d worked hard for this degree, and I was determined to walk with the rest of my class,” she affirmed.

The challenge was how to attend the ceremony without leaving her newborn behind.

Grace found an ingenious solution.

She decided to tuck her 10-day-old daughter snugly into her graduation gown.

This way, she could keep her baby close while attending the ceremony.

The idea came from her mother, who suggested it the day before the ceremony.

“My mom, the day before, said, ‘Just wear her on you, underneath your gown. No one will notice. It’ll be OK,’ ” Grace recounted to NBC Affiliate WOOD-TV.

And so, she did just that, keeping her daughter with her throughout the event.

Grace’s educational journey was unique.

She enrolled in the Ferris State Student Success Hub at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City in 2019.

This hub allowed remote students like her to pursue their education while managing family responsibilities.

The shift to online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic made it easier for her to juggle her studies and care for her daughter, Isabelle.
