If there’s one thing one can learn about motherhood, it’s the fact that all mothers are bound by compassion and kindness, especially to one another.
A “mother” found herself at the receiving end of such generous kindness when she needed it the most.
They say it takes a village to raise a child. However, you also need a village to empower a mother.
Pam Medina was looking for gently used baby supplies at 7:30 AM.
The 48-year-old nurse was just finishing her shift.
She clocked out at 7:15 AM but she stayed a while because she saw her colleague, Sara Putnam, in a dire situation.
Putnam just found out that she was granted custody of her 7-month-old granddaughter.
The decision came to her at the last minute and now she had to scramble for whichever baby supplies she could find.
Medina shared that she learned about the situation when she walked into the break room.
There, Medina saw Putnam digging and shuffling through a box of donated baby clothes.
Feeling for her co-worker, Medina asked Putnam to stop and that she’d help her get the things she needed.
Medina then turned to the power of social media.
She posted Putnam’s story in several Facebook pages like “Short Pump Yard Sale” and “Short Pumps Moms Classified.”
She said in her post that they were nurses and they weren’t asking for handouts.
They just wanted to make sure that Putnam was ready to take her granddaughter in.
The response to her post was overwhelming.
Medina, who was from Richmond, drove all over the city and even to Chesterfield to pick up the items the other moms so generously donated.
The search started at 7:30 AM. By 5:30 PM, Medina was already parked in front of the hospital where they met Putnam.
In a now-viral video, Putnam burst into tears when Medina opened the trunk of her car.
Medina first told Putnam that she got a stroller and that she needed help so they can put it in Putnam’s car.
However, the stroller was just part of a bigger surprise.
Putnam cried upon seeing that Medina’s car trunk was filled to the brim with different baby care things.
They got two strollers, a rock’n play, a swing set, tons of clothes, and baby bottles.
More than the quantity of the things they received, the nurses were moved by the sheer action.
“I just sobbed. I just cried,” Medina told CBS 6. “I am still overwhelmed by the response of folks who did not know me and did not know her.”
To make matters even better, Medina shared with Inside Edition that help hasn’t stopped coming in.
Shortly after the surprise, Medina was also set to pick up other things.
After expressing her gratitude, she also told people that she was just waiting for Putnam to go over what she still needed.
