Taking your family out for dinner can turn both ways.
Sometimes, especially for larger families with multiple kids, going out can feel like herding cattle. There are times when things are tamer and everyone can eat their dinner in peace. On the other hand, we can find ourselves in situations where people are throwing us daggers with their eyes.
Kids can be a handful, that’s for sure.
So when a stranger noticed how a set of kids acted in a restaurant in Texas, they decided to write the family a letter.
The Bokorst family had dinner at Rico’s Hacienda. With five children with ages ranging from 4 to 14, one can easily expect things to get a bit rowdy. Such is life with kids, especially when you’re out. But not the Bokorst family.
“We just try to make sure to let them know that when they are out in public, specifically, that they are well behaved,” Ryan Bokorst, their dad, said to KPRC 2.
It can already be hectic with just two kids, so five kids of different ages? But through their parenting and communication, the family of seven managed to have dinner without interrupting others.
Kids running around isn’t bad in itself.
It’s their nature to be curious, playful, and social with other children. But in closed public spaces meant for things other than playing, it can be a bit dangerous and distracting.
It was a lesson the Bokorst kids knew by heart, and their behavior didn’t go unnoticed.
When the family was about to pay the bill, the waiter gave them something else that surprised all of them. As they opened the piece of paper handed to them, they realized that it was a personalized letter.
“I asked for the bill and the waiter brought me the little booklet with the note in it. I was speechless and not quite sure what was going on,” Ryan said to the local news outlet.
The note said:
“Sir I was so impressed with your family tonight. Your children were well-mannered and courteous. You two should be proud as parents. You both have done well. It was my pleasure to pay your bill tonight. Your family is truly a breath of fresh air in the days of children screaming and running around. Have a blessed day and week.”
The family wanted to personally thank the stranger behind the note but the letter was not signed in any way. The person also left before they finished, so they never found out who the stranger was.
The Bokorst family was flattered and but more than that, they felt blessed.
Not only did they have a good time, but their kids were also praised for their good manners and conduct.
Ryan and their mom Maggie said that they used this moment to teach their children that they’re not too young to impact the world.
Hopefully, the kids will remember this story as they grow up into the people they were meant to be.
