When Samantha Snipes arrived at the airport, she didn’t know her life was about to change. She had just left an abusive relationship and was on her way to North Carolina from Arkansas to live with her new boyfriend. She was also eight months pregnant and due in the next few weeks.

Things were messy in Samantha’s life, and she wasn’t sure how she was going to care for a child.

She was thinking about giving the baby up for adoption or letting a family member have him. She explained:

“I knew I loved this life inside of me, but I didn’t love myself or the place I was in at that time. I loved (my son) so much and that’s why knew he deserved better.”

Samantha accidentally missed a connecting flight and found herself on standby for another one.

She ended up sitting next to a woman named Temple Phipps. Phipps was divorced and single but desperately wanted a child. She had been contemplating adoption or foster care for a while.

Temple and Samantha talked during the flight and made an instant connection. They both shared their stories with each other and noticed that it seemed like fate had brought them together. By the end of the flight, the women had formed a close bond. When Samantha left, Temple gave her a card with her phone number on it and told her if there was any way she could help, to let her know.

Samantha said:

“It went from a total stranger to feeling like a person I’ve known my entire life.”

Three days after the flight, Samantha gave birth to Vaughn.

She immediately called Temple. She wasn’t sure if Temple had meant what she had said or if she would even come to the hospital. Sure enough, she came right there. Samantha wanted Temple to adopt her son.

Temple was touched by Samantha’s story and knew that the two women were meant to meet that day and that Temple was destined to be Vaughn’s mother. Temple was extremely happy to adopt the baby, and after seeing the two together, Samantha knew that she made the right choice. She explained:

“Temple already looked like she loved him after holding him for an hour. The stuff that I wasn’t feeling, she was feeling, and I was watching that. And that’s what made me decide this was the right thing to do.”

Two weeks later, Temple took baby Vaughn home to live with her, and a short time later, she officially adopted him.

Samantha ended up moving to Raleigh, where Temple and Vaughn live. She still has a relationship with the baby, and she and Temple have become good friends. They even work together.

Temple will never be able to thank Samantha enough for giving her the gift of motherhood, and Samantha is thankful to have such an amazing person caring for her child. Vaughn has a great life and is clearly loved by both women.

Temple talked about the experience, saying:

“I won the baby lottery for sure. Miracles do happen, and I think you can manifest those things. And this is what manifested.”

Who would have thought that a missed flight and two strangers would turn into such an amazing story?

Fate was definitely working that day to make sure that everything fell into place for Samantha, Temple, and Vaughn. Both Samantha and Temple were in need of something that day, and it turns out it was each other. Now they both have a beautiful baby who has a great life and gets to experience things with both his adoptive mom and his birth mom.
