Every birth is truly something special to witness, but we’re pretty sure that this one will be remembered for a very long time.
The lovely couple Justin and Brittany Selph were expecting to have their third baby soon on November 5th, but that didn’t exactly go according to plan. Mom’s water broke on Halloween night, and the couple unexpectedly had to rush to the hospital.
When they arrived at the hospital, they were quite surprised to see their doctor dressed up as ‘The Joker’ from the Batman franchise.
They were pretty astounded at first but then realized that the doctor was simply in a Halloween spirit.
“My wife’s due date was November 5, but that obviously didn’t happen. She woke up Halloween morning to her water leaking. We went to the hospital around 12:30 p.m. and checked in. Brittany’s doctor came in to meet with us and check things out,” dad Justin said to LittleThings.
“That’s when we found out he was dressed for Halloween that day, as the Joker. We found it very humorous and a little excited that we would have a baby delivered by the Joker.”
The husband even jokingly said that he should get some make-up to give his wife a Harley Quinn look to match with the joker.
“In fact, I mentioned to my wife that I should go get some face paint and fix her up as Harley Quinn. Unfortunately, I didn’t! It would have made the story that much sweeter!” he recalls.
Brittany’s water broke and it was clear that the baby was coming soon, but there was still some time left for the doctor to change into regular clothes for the procedure. He planned to make a quick trip back home, but Brittany told him that he didn’t have to change at all.
After all, who can say that they’ve had their baby delivered by The Joker?
“He came back in to check on her around 4:00 p.m. that afternoon. She again wasn’t ready. So, he said he was going home to pass out candy and change clothes.”
“My wife said, “Aww, we would hope that you wouldn’t change.””
So he didn’t – the doctor simply put on his operating clothes and prepped the delivery. The couple recalls everything perfectly. He didn’t tell them that he’d still have his Joker look, but since the parents didn’t mind, he thought it’d be a funny and unique surprise.
“Brittany was ready for delivery at 8:00 p.m., so the nurse called her doctor in, and to our surprise, he showed up in full Joker attire, ready to deliver our baby, Oaklyn.”
“There my wife is, staring the Joker straight in the eyes while delivering our baby — what a sight! I was holding her leg up and snapping pictures!”
The delivery went well and a beautiful baby girl, Oaklyn, was welcomed to the world.
After the delivery, Justin was so excited about the whole thing that he just had to take a selfie with the doctor.
And the doctor’s shenanigans didn’t end there. The following morning, he returned for a check-up on mom and the newborn and apologized for ‘not being able to make it’. He also gave them a small congratulations card, although it wasn’t exactly signed by himself.
“The next morning, he came in to check on Brittany, and he said, “Sorry I couldn’t make it in last night. Glad to see the delivery went well.”
“Joking, of course.”
“He also gave her a card of congratulations, and he signed it “Dr. Joker.””
As for little Oaklyn, the adorable baby is doing wonderful and will have a ton of funny pictures to look at when she’s older.
