There are plenty of picky kids in the world. There are also plenty of excuses.
These kids may have found some of the strangest excuses for avoiding particular foods. Thankfully, via the magic of the internet, their parents have shared those excuses with the world.
Here are the best ones around:
Yep. This kid refused to eat their fries because the fries were too blurry. We can only assume they meant wavy. We still don’t think that’s actually a valid reason.
#2 “It’s not the one I picked out”
We can understand this mom’s dismay. Her daughter didn’t want the yogurt she was offered (on the left) because it wasn’t the one she picked out (on the right).
These slices of watermelon were turned down because they had seeds. They might be magical invisible seeds. You would think that would make them more appealing, not less.
#4 “The icing is cracked”
A son refused to eat this cookie because the icing was cracked. His mom, in her exasperation, shared his age: fifteen.
The kids in this house were actually crying about having to eat these Jell-O creations. Why? Because they might actually be bats.
#6 “They are cracked open like Humpty Dumpty”
These grapes were turned down because they were cracked apart like the fairy tale character. The worst part that one very flustered mom pointed out: he had asked for his grapes to be sliced in half.
#7 “I already ate at school”
She didn’t want to eat what was on her plate. She thought she had the perfect excuse – “I already ate at school!” The problem: it was Sunday.
We have to give this kid some credit. The food does kind of look like it has toes. We also have to point out that, unless they are real toes, it’s still not a valid excuse.
#9 “It needs medical attention”
This muffin remained untouched. Why? Because it needed to see a doctor first.
A little girl almost won her argument for not eating the meat on her plate. She started off with, “I’m a vegetarian.” So far, so good. But then she rounded it off with “So, I would like chicken nuggets instead.”
So close…
His mom told him he was getting a leg. Now he won’t eat it because it’s a leg and people shouldn’t eat legs, although wings and parts that can’t be named are fine.
Kid logic.
This mom went through the extra effort to make a visually appealing meal. Her kid’s rather concise response: “You shouldn’t have done that.”
#13 “I don’t like the orange part”
She refused to eat the banana because of the orange part. The orange part was the spoon.
Kids really seem to hate the idea of legs on food. This carrot did not make it to any plates.
#15 “It tastes like you mixed up fruit”
This flustered mom shared that her child wouldn’t eat what she made because it was cold and tasted like mixed up fruit. In other words, it was exactly what she had made.
#16 “The mice already took bites”
This one is kind of adorable. A little girl refused to eat the cheese because she was convinced that she wasn’t the first one to snack on it. Those holes do kind of look suspicious.
#17 “It looks too much like a rabbit”
She didn’t want to wreck it by biting into the honey. It’s hard to argue with that one.
Not everyone likes peanuts. That’s understandable. But he was repeatedly warned that the candy contained peanuts. He took one anyway and then discovered it contained a peanut.
#19 “There are too many spoons”
We have to agree. There are quite a few spoons in the bowl. However, it’s the kid complaining about it who also happened to put them all there.
They wanted “cheese and crackers.” They did not want “crackers and cheese.” Maybe if mom turns the plate around, so the cheese is on the left, then everything will be okay. Maybe…
#21 “They’re missing the heads”
He refused to eat them because they didn’t have any heads. He was the one who had bitten off all the heads.
#22 Her “heart wants Goldfish”
This meal was refused because it didn’t call to her heart. Goldfish called to her heart.
His mom never claimed it was an Oreo. However, once he discovered it was not an Oreo, he threw it to the ground, and a tantrum followed soon after. We wonder what the developing crowd thought about the whole fiasco.
This kid complained that his grapes were too spicy. We’re not even sure how that is possible.
He refused to eat this grilled cheese because it had a tail. He told his mom that he doesn’t eat animals, so he won’t eat anything with a tail.
He would not eat them because they were dead. We have to wonder what he would have thought if they got up and started dancing.
This kid said they would not eat the strawberry because it had too many nipples. Mom asked if they meant seeds. Nope, nipples.
We think something may have gotten lost in translation.
He didn’t want to eat this dinner. He said that he’s not a fan of fancy food.
#29 “It might taste like the cast of Frozen”
It makes sense in a way. If chocolate cereal tastes like chocolate, then Frozen cereal might taste like Frozen characters. Who wants people flavored cereal?
Her son refuses to eat the berries because the hairs are weird. She would like to point out that her son is a teenager.
#31 “Onion rings have onions”
He always liked onions rings. However, things have changed. He has since learned that they might contain onions.
Mom went the extra mile to make sure her child was safe when she removed the pits from the cherries. However, by doing so, she was informed that she had turned the cherries into olives.
#33 “It looks like the apple in Snow White”
She was afraid to eat the apple because it might make her fall into a deep slumber. Her mom wishes it was that simple and that fruit made nap time possible.
The smile was too perfect. He refused to eat it. It now lives in the freezer where he can visit it whenever he wants.
He wouldn’t eat it because it was broken. He also refused to give it to his mom because it was his. The chip’s fate seems bleak.
She had a muffin. She farted. Now, she refuses to eat the muffin because it’s a fart muffin.
#37 “It looks like a butt”
The apple could not be eaten. It just looked too much like a butt.
She couldn’t eat it due to its absolute perfection. She even wept over how beautiful it was.
#39 It’s what he asked for
This is exactly what he asked for. He refuses to eat it. However, if his mom eats it, he will want it two hours later. If she doesn’t eat it, then it will never be eaten.
#40 “It wasn’t made by rats”
After watching the movie named after the dish, he wanted ratatouille. His mom found a recipe, and painstakingly made it. He refused to eat it because no rats had been involved in the process.
