Last year was a wild ride for Amber Johnston.
When her partner left home, she stayed with her 4-year-old Anthony Romeo, knowing that she would struggle financially.
The single mom faced all the difficulties a single parent had to deal with, and with financial problems to top it all off.
According to studies, the majority of single mothers have to tackle loneliness, while at the same time, they feel helpless and hopeless.
Single mothers are often found to experience a lack of identity and a lack of confidence.
And, as if all this was not enough, having to care for someone who is completely dependent on them, single moms feel the pressure of needing to provide for their small family.
They need to work hard to earn enough money for a house, a vehicle, to keep their fridge and pantry full, while at the same time, they need to be present and always available for their children to discuss any issue that arises.
Amber Johnston loves her toddler son more than anything, but when her partner left, she was shattered and she had no idea how she’d manage to respond to all the needs of her household all by herself.
“When what happened happened to us, his father leaving, it completely devastated us, and I did not know where to turn,” Johnston told Click Orlando.
The woman appeared on the local news during a reportage about declining rent prices in Orlando.
This is when she shared her experience about facing the fear of being evicted from her home, and staying at a hotel with her 4-year-old son until she could provide a better place for him.
The woman, who said she was only hoping for a Christmas miracle, went to the hotel lobby with the reporter and her son, where little Anthony got a present from a toy giveaway.
One News 6 viewer from Daytona Beach, Paul Zappitelli, knew that he wanted to help this young mom and her son.
“I saw that little boy running over to Santa, and I just, I just teared over. I went: ‘Oh my gosh, that’s horrible,’” Zappitelli said.
Indeed, the man soon arranged so that mother and son could stay at one of his condos for two months rent-free, so that Amber could pick up the pieces and start over.
Chances are that the woman will start working at the family’s restaurant, Zappi’s Italian Garden in Daytona Beach, which she would absolutely love to do.
For now, the mother and her son are enjoying their new home and the generosity of their new landlords.
Zappitelli and his wife made sure to not only provide a safe home for Amber and Anthony, but also filled their fridge and pantry so that they wouldn’t miss anything during the past holiday season.
Thanks to a stranger’s act of kindness, a mother and son on the verge of homelessness now have a place to call home.
The single mom now has the time to plan her next moves having in mind what is best for her and her child.
