In September 2015, Liam McCarney headed off to college. Liam quickly settled into life at his new school, and he had a great time going to classes and meeting lots of new people.

Liam was having so much fun at his new school, he forgot to do one very important thing: call his mom.

Liam’s mom, Ann Pinto McCarney, was naturally a bit upset when her son didn’t return her phone calls. After a while, she got sick of calling and calling and receiving no answer. And so, she decided to take matters into her own hands.

Ann shot a hilarious video reminding Liam who she was. She posted the side-splitting video on her YouTube page.

Ann works as a theater director, and she gives an incredible performance as she reminds Liam who she is. The video begins with Ann waving to Liam and saying hello. She asks if he remembers her, and then she says, “I’m you’re Mommy!”

Ann then reminds Liam that he spent most of his first two years on her hip. She even shows him the hip for good measure.

After that, Ann asks if Liam ever lies in his bed and wonders who fed him for his first 18 years. Then, she reminds him that it was her!

Ann worries that that wasn’t enough to jog Liam’s memory, and so she begins discussing his karate classes.

“Oh, you remember like two days a week, from fifth grade to tenth grade, there would be this lady who would drive you to karate, and you were always yelling at her like, ‘ah, I hate karate, it’s stupid’…do you remember that? I was her! I was that crazy lady you argued with and helped you get your black belt.”

Then, Ann has a realization: maybe Liam didn’t forget his mom. Maybe he just forgot how to use a phone!

Ann walks Liam through how to use a phone, going step-by-step, making sure he understands everything. Finally, she ends the video by saying that she’s now sure she’s going to hear from him—and hopefully before his next tuition payment is due!

After the video went viral, Ann did an interview with NBC Philadelphia. She explained that she often makes videos for Liam and his sisters.

“I did a lot of videos with my son when we were on a college road trip, and they were pretty funny, because he wanted no parts of the videos,” Ann told NBC Philadelphia. “As soon as I gave birth and got stretch marks, I figured I had a right to torture him as much as I want.”

Ann said that she thinks the video went so viral because it resonates with parents.

“Sending your child off to college is so bittersweet to begin with. There’s a combination of your heart is soaring and swelling with pride and yet it’s breaking at the same time. So when you let them go like that, you don’t want to feel like you’ve been completely erased from their life. I think it struck a chord.”

Ann also told NBC that Liam finally called her the day after she posted the now-viral video.
