Jennifer Ann Little had been devoting herself to her schooling for the past few years.
The mother of two had decided to go back to school and get a degree, and her life had been crazy ever since. She had been out of school for so long, it was weird getting back into the routines and habits, but she managed to make it work.
While Jennifer worked dutifully on homework and tests, her sons were encouraging her from afar. They were both away on active duty— one in the Army and the other in the Air Force— so they didn’t have the opportunity to see her accomplishments first hand.
After years of studying, reading textbooks, and writing essays, Jennifer was finally set to graduate with her degree. Throughout her time in school, she had been devoted to her school work and gotten a great GPA— earning herself a magna cum laude distinction on graduation.
Jennifer was proud of all the hard work she put in and felt disappointed her boys wouldn’t be around to see it. She knew they’d do anything to be there if they could, but the situation was out of everyone’s control. Little did Jennifer know, however, she was in for a big surprise.
On the night of the graduation, Jennifer prepared to walk across the stage and collect her diploma.
Clad in the traditional graduation cap and robe, Jennifer looks like the ultimate scholar. When her name is called, she walks toward the professors and dean at the center. You can see the pride in her straight spine and buoyant steps.
When Jennifer gets halfway across the stage, two figures pop out in front of her.
When she sees who it is, she immediately freezes.
Raising her hands to her face in disbelief, she can’t move another inch. When they realize what is happening, the entire crowd goes wild.
Jennifer sons had managed to surprise her by making it to the graduation ceremony.
Jennifer crumples to her knees, and one of the boys grabs her diploma from the teacher, holding it out to his mother with a grin. In the audience, you can see other graduates standing up and applauding the special scene.
When Jennifer has collected her composure, the proud boys make their way to her side, standing beside their beaming mother as she poses for photos.
According to a video by USA TODAY’s Militarykind, Jennifer called the graduation the third best day of her life (which I would assume comes after the birth of her two sons). Not only did her hard work pay off in the form of a degree, but her boys were able to pull off an amazing surprise.
Since being featured by USA Today, Jennifer’s story is going viral. You can only imagine the immense joy and surprise she is feeling when she walks across the stage and sees her two sons. It’s impossible not to be touched by the special moment; it really does tug at your heart.
