Everyone loves babies. But seven co-workers welcoming babies at around the same time? That’s what the state troopers in Kentucky have experienced.
Seven state troopers and detectives in Georgetown, Kentucky, realized that they were all having babies at roughly the same time. Well, mostly: The birthdates of the babies stretched as far as six months apart. But that’s still in a pretty close range, and the wife of one of the troopers realized they had a unique opportunity.
Vicky Puckett, a local photographer with a business called HUEit Photography by Vicky Lea, got an interesting call.
“When one of the wives realized that they were all having babies, she wanted to capture it,” Puckett said. “She thought it was therapeutic.”
All the families got together with Puckett on a Sunday afternoon in Georgetown for a special photo shoot. It was a chance to capture some adorable family photos, of course. But they also saw it as something more important.
“I didn’t think about it when we took the picture, but it kind of reminds us all the reason we go out every day to work, and definitely the reason why we’re coming home,” said Detective Tye Chavies, who is pictured with his wife and baby son.
Chavies added that he thinks the photo shoot was a chance to remind people that officers are just as human as they are.
The babies certainly are adorable, from bright-eyed 6-month-olds to sleepy 8-day-olds. The boys and girls were all are dressed in a black onesie with an American flag and their father’s state trooper number.
Their mothers also joined them for some pictures.
While the results are precious, Puckett said it was a challenge working with her tiny, brand-new models. The photo shoot took about two hours altogether, which can be draining on young babies — especially when all eyes are on them.
“It was pure chaos,” she said, laughing. “At one point they were all crying at once. Not all of them were happy.”
But she agrees with Chavies that the photo shoot was an opportunity to remind people of the humanity of law enforcement.
It’s only natural that people should be a little wary of officers. They can seem scary when they’re doing their job. But at the end of the day, they have families of their own.
“They have these adorable babies they come home to, and we sometimes forget that,” Puckett said.
Some of the photos captured the families all together, while some got the babies on their own … and there were a few that showed some unhappy faces. But for the most part, the babies look happy to snuggle up to their fathers in their state trooper uniforms.
The little ones that have joined the mini police force include five baby girls and two baby boys, all born in 2018.
No one can explain the baby boom among the Kentucky state troopers, but one of the mothers said that it was a big relief for her during her pregnancy. She enjoyed the support of the other expectant mothers and having someone to talk to about becoming a parent.
The photos range from the dads in state trooper uniforms holding their babies in their arms, to photos of the new parents with their babies, to individual family photos. Some of the officers have older children who now get to be featured alongside their famous newborn brothers and sisters.
As cute as the photos might be, no one expected them to get the online attention they did.
Puckett said she was surprised to realize the picture session had gone viral. The internet was going crazy for the state troopers and their adorable new babies.
“Kentucky is blessed with the watchful eyes of the Kentucky State Police for seven days a week, 365 days a year!” reads the Facebook post on HUEit Photography by Vicky Lea. “This year some of our officers were blessed with 7 miracles of their own!”

Despite a long, arduous photo session with seven babies feeding off one another, the families are happy that they got the chance to come together in front of a camera lens.
They’re also thrilled with the reaction to the photos, which are making their way around the internet and even major TV networks.
With any luck, they’ll remind people that the police are people just like them. And they’ll also remind the troopers to be grateful for what they have every day.
