He never saw it coming.

Father’s day is a time when we can look at and celebrate the great men who have always been there through thick or thin: our fathers.

It’s one of the toughest jobs to be a father, especially when raising a family gets harder and harder these days.

For one dad, in particular, nothing was sweeter than the gift his adopted son gave to him. Bundled and wrapped up in a huge gift box, the surprise was laid out in typical fashion. What came next is a tear-jerking moment that will leave you crying in a puddle of joy.

The event started very calmly. The lovely family gathered at the dinner table anxiously waiting for Dad to unveil his Father’s day present. Nerves rattled from the silence and you can feel that there was something big about to happen. You can cut the excitement in the air with a butter knife!

To the right, his adopted son presented him with a Happy Father’s day card. The tender words clearly started to make his dad soften up. Nothing wrong with showing your pops some appreciating for raising you and being there when you needed him most. However, this was just the tip of the iceberg.

His gleamy eyes indicated that he was on the verge of tears as he was prepared to open the giant box that lay before him. I think we all know where this is heading.

The man began to unfasten the ribbon and carefully removed the box cover.

His first find was a can of Monster Energy drink, which he discarded rather quickly.

Next up, a pack of M&M’s was found wrapped inside another newspaper along with another Monster, some chewing gum, and Jack Link’s beef jerky. It seems they’re trying to stock the man up for the winter!

Finally, the big moment had arrived. The man picked up a frame where a picture of him and his son was displayed. In the frame, there was a poem written by his son.

It read:

“Some people would say you’re not my real Dad

But we know this isn’t true..

For you’ve been a real dad to me

In all the things we’ve been through.

We’ve had our ups and downs

Sometimes it’s hard to bend…

But you’ve always been there when I needed you

And that’s what matters in the end.

You’ve been patient kind and firm

Over the years as I’ve grown..

And I’m eternally grateful to you

Because you’ve treated me as your own.

Although we’re not taught by bloodlines

The love and trust you’ve given me..

Is a precious gift day, after day

And that’s what counts as a real dad to me.

So let’s just make it official…”

No words could truly describe what just happened. The immensity of the moment truly moves Dad to pure emotion.

Immediately the father began weeping tears of joy and appreciation. The two warmly embraced each other in an endearing fashion. This moment is enough to make anyone cry of happiness!

“I’m going to get my last name changed too” said his now legitamate son.

It was a huge, brave step for the son to come out like this. Not only did he pay respect to his dad for the occasion, but he also assured him that no matter what decisions he’s made with his boy, it all worked out even better than ever expected.
