Wayne has been a father figure to Myla since she was 3-months-old. That’s when her real dad left and never came back. Even when life presents its challenges, Wayne never walked away from Myla and her mom.
“She has always know she has had a Dad because Wayne has always been there for her and helped raise her into the beauty she is today,” Myla’s mom wrote on YouTube.
Even though Myla has always felt that Wayne was her dad, it wasn’t official.
So, she decided she wanted to make it official and ask Wayne if he would adopt her. She wrote him a special letter and asked him to read it out loud before she popped the big question.
“I don’t remember when you came into my life, I was just a newborn, but I do remember growing up with you,” he read. “It felt good to feel protected, to feel safe, and to have a father-daughter relationship because my real father couldn’t give me that. But that’s OK because God gave me you and I’m so thankful for that.”
Myla’s note explained how Wayne had always remained loyal and put her and her mother first even when times were tough and he struggled.
“You chose us,” he read. “Love is making an effort for it and that has taught me to never give up on love. You have taught me a lot and chose me too. To choose someone means to never let them down and never give up on them no matter how hard things get.”
She thanked him for making it his duty to make sure that she felt protected and challenging her to be a better person without ever walking away.
“This is exactly why I didn’t want to read it,” Wayne said, chocking up with tears.
Myla’s letter tells Wayne that he is selfless and that she acknowledges that taking her in was one of the biggest responsibilities that one can have and that he did it anyway with strength and integrity.
“Father’s Day is special to me because I get to call you mine,” the letter read. “Daddy will you adopt me?”
“Of course,” he tells her before giving her a big hug and wiping away tears from his face.
