Random acts of kindness. They have the power to completely shift and change someone’s day.
A benefit to both sides
But, did you know that doing an act of kindness is also beneficial for the person who does it, too?
In fact, experts agree that when you do an act of kindness, there are certain parts of your brain that are stimulated in such a way that makes you feel good- this is called “helper’s high” and it has been shown to minimize stress and reduce depression.
Also, such deeds have been found to enhance our sense of community and belonging. These two have also proved to help people live longer, healthier lives.
A day of shopping
So, when a dad was at Walmart shopping with his kids the other day and a stranger did something unexpected for his sons, he felt the need to share it with the world and publicly thank them for brightening up his children’s day.
About a week ago, Bobby Clayton and his sons, Harvi and Ryder, were doing their 4th of July shopping at a Walmart in Winston-Salem.
Time to pay
When it was time for them to pay, they reached the self check-out spot, and they were getting their stuff in place to go back home. And then a stranger approached them.
A woman got closer to them and started chatting with them about the celebration and what their plans for the national holiday were.
At some point, she asked if she could buy the kids some candy.
“As we was checking out at self check out, this sweet woman started talking to us and she asked if she could buy my kids something. I responded with ‘yes sure'”, Clayton wrote in a post in a local Facebook group.
Then the woman told the kids they could pick up the candy they liked, and then she paid for it.
Shock and appreciation
The children, of course, were surprised by the woman’s nice gesture, but they didn’t forget their good manners, not for a second.
As Clayton explained, he didn’t even have to ask them to thank the woman, they instinctively did so themselves.
“With out even having to ask my kids to say thank you, when she handed them the candy, they responded with ‘thank you, you made our day'”, he recalled.
Although the man asked the woman’s name so he could properly thank her, she just turned around and left as if she wanted to remain anonymous. As if it were a symbolic act of kindness reminding everyone that it doesn’t matter who you are, you just need to do good for others.
“I encourage everyone to try and do one good thing for somebody each and every day,” Clayton concluded.
After the man posted about his experience online, the story has gone viral and it has been featured in various news channels.
Learning her identity
Clayton even talked to WFMY News 2 about it and, after his interview was uploaded on YouTube, there was someone who commented about the woman’s identity.
According to a man named Scottie Stevens, the woman is Miss Annie Heath of Winston Salem, but there has been no confirmation of that so far.
Whoever the lady is, her deed made two little children realize that there are good and generous people out there and that they should pass on this act of kindness.
This good deed in turn taught them the meaning of being kind to others. You can watch the full story in the video below.
