They grow up so fast!

Once babies start hitting milestones, things go by in a blur and it seems like there’s a new “first” every day. A few days spent away on a trip means you’re likely to miss something (but don’t worry – they’ll keep doing it!).

Dad returns

Christina Scripps uploaded an adorable video of her daughter Ella showing her dad a new trick. And since it was posted in June of 2013, his reaction has been viewed over 1.2 million times.

As dad walked in the door he saw Ella standing at the end of the entryway. Clearly, she’d been standing for a while, she just wasn’t mobile.

So dad figured he’d encourage her to take the next step, so to speak, as her parents had no doubt been doing for a few weeks.

He got down on all fours and crawled towards her.

But she was totally over crawling – that was SO last week.

After gesticulating at mom to make sure she’s getting this all on the record, this baby is ready to show off.

So, after dad moved forward just a bit, Ella started to move. And in a split second, she was walking like a pro right towards him!

Time flies

Babies usually learn to walk anywhere between 9 and 18 months old. And walking early isn’t necessarily a sign of anything accelerated, developmentally speaking. In fact, if your baby learns to walk at 9 months old, he or she is not a genius, it just means you just have to babyproof your house much sooner.

But that doesn’t mean it’s not a milestone to celebrate, no matter when it happens. Watching your child go from a crawling baby to a toddling toddler is a bittersweet moment for most parents.

Plenty of parents get anxious when their child isn’t trying to walk by the time they turn 1, but as long as they’re using their arms and legs to be mobile in some way, there’s really not much to worry about until they miss the milestone entirely.

Of course, parental competition is alive and well on social media, and some folks are always looking to find a way to brag.

But the best thing you can do for a baby is to be supportive of their milestones and let them accomplish them without a lot of pressure.

Surprise!

Clearly, Ella had learned those steps at least a day prior and Scripps decided to surprise her husband rather than tell him over the phone.

And boy was he stunned!

It’s a good thing she was too young to swear at the time because dad’s first reaction was to squeal “What the hell was that?!” – but we promise, it’s adorable.

He couldn’t believe what had just happened. All of the sudden, Ella was right there.

Dad scooped her up and held her in the air in celebration of her feat.

His mouth dropped open as he laughed and stared at Ella’s mom in disbelief.

“Surprise!” she said.

And that was an understatement. He’s flabbergasted!

The video is short and sweet and ends with dad hugging Ella tightly as she took her next steps towards being a big girl.
