Sometimes something can be so funny that we totally lose control of ourselves and it becomes impossible to stop laughing.

It’s usually inexplicable and comes out of nowhere. Often, the thing we’re laughing at isn’t even all that funny. You hear it again later and you can’t remember what made you lose your mind like that in the first place, but in the moment something tickles you.

But the secret ingredient is usually being around someone you love.

Laughing fits with your best friends can go on for ages. So long that you’re trying your best to stop but just can’t.

You don’t even remember what’s funny anymore, you’re just laughing because they’re laughing, and they’re laughing because you’re laughing.

Just when you think you’ve calmed down… someone slips up and loses it again.

This adorable baby, who can’t be much more than a year old, knows the feeling all too well.

While playing with some animal flash cards, something about the word ‘donkey’ tickled his funny bone, and he erupted into a fit of laughter. The woman playing with him, presumably his mother, thought his reaction was so cute that she recorded it.

And the world is better for it!

This bubbly, giggling little ball of joy already has tears in his eyes when the video starts. Something about the word ‘donkey’ has him shaking with laughter.

His mother is trying to figure out what’s going on.

“Why is donkey hilarious to you?”

But of course, he’s so young he can’t explain what’s going on in his head yet!

His mom tries a little test. She hands him some different flash cards.

Kangaroo? He simply looks at the card intently.
Turtle? Nothing funny about a turtle.
Goose? Who cares about a goose?

He seems as if maybe he’d calmed down. She hands him donkey again… and of course, he loses his mind again.

What’s so funny, little baby?!

“What’s so funny about donkey? Donkey?”

Her little boy loses it again, holding on to the donkey card like it’s the funniest toy he’s ever had.

Is it the way the word sounds, or the way the animal looks?

In his defence, donkeys are hilarious looking animals.

And if you say donkey 10 times fast, like I did, it’ll start to sound alien, you’ll be confused and you’ll regret it. Maybe that’s what happened to this little guy.

Contagious laughter is a real thing, and it’s been studied by scientists who were eager to get to the bottom of this strange human behaviour.

There’s one curious case from the 1960s in Tanzania, where three boarding school students had a laughing fit, and just couldn’t stop. Their uncontrollable laughter and tears spread throughout the school, ‘infecting’ more than half the school! It even spread to nearby villages.

It seems crazy – but it’s true!

And now with YouTube making it easy to spread this kind of laughter all over the world, there’s no telling how many people will be affected by this little angel’s giggles!

I know I for one, can’t stop laughing. And I’ll never see a donkey the same way again.

Watch the adorable video below, but be warned: it may induce uncontrollable laughter!
