Most boys would consider their fathers as their heroes.
Fathers set an example for their sons, and young boys always look up to them as their first teacher or coach.
They see their father as someone who would do everything for the family.
Fathers also hold a special place in a young boy’s heart, especially when they spend together, whether it’s a teaching moment or just having fun.
That’s why when you see these young boys grow older, they become the man they are because of their father.
However, fathers consider their sons heroes, too.
Many fathers would often say that their lives have changed since the birth of their first child, whether a son or daughter.
A father’s heart is forever changed the first time they hold their child in their arms and considers that as heroic somehow.
But for this father in California, he considers his teenage son his hero. Literally.
He thought of him as a hero who saved his life; without him, he might not have survived.
It may seem like a reverse situation, but the truthfulness of this story is what makes it remarkable.
Matthew Wilkinson was trying to fix his truck on a Monday night.
He noticed something was wrong with the breaks and had to fix it that night to be able to use it for work the next day.
Matthew was determined to get it done, so he worked hard and checked on every angle to ensure its roadworthiness.
He found that the rotor of his truck was stuck.
“I couldn’t get a good angle, so I slid my body underneath the truck and was hitting it,” he told ABC7.
What happened next could have been the most horrific minutes in Matthew’s life.
The rotor popped off, causing the truck to move forward, and fell on him.
He felt all the air in his lungs, and his entire body went off with that one blow.
As he recalled, he said all he remembered was he couldn’t talk or yell because he was completely squished.
Matthew was rushed to the hospital and luckily survived.
The doctor said he ended up with a separated shoulder, punctured lung, and broken rib.
What he couldn’t figure out was how he got out of that situation because if he hadn’t, we wouldn’t have made it alive.
So, he called home and told them to check their security camera – and it was where he got his answer.
The footage showed that his teenage son was right there with him.
Fifteen-year-old Dalin always gives his father a hand when he’s fixing the truck whenever he can.
He was checking on his father when the incident happened.
As he saw his father struggle, he had no idea what to do.
Panic started to set in, and Dalin’s adrenaline rush took the lead.
“It just dropped right on him. I was scared. I heard him make a noise like his soul was leaving his body. It was crazy. I just ran over and tried as hard as I could to get it up enough to get him out,” he said in the report.
