Being a teen mother is tough.
Being a teen mother who doesn’t have the father around to help with the baby is even tougher. Hannah Mongie and her boyfriend found out they were pregnant while they were both teenagers. The went to see the baby on the eight-week ultrasound and even got to hear the heartbeat.
Sadly, the baby’s father passed away in his sleep a short time later, and that meant Hannah was going to have to raise the baby alone.
She was worried that she wouldn’t be able to provide for her son or give him the best life possible. So, even though he was the last piece of her boyfriend that she had, she decided to give the baby up for adoption.
When her son was born, she got to spend 48 hours with him before handing him over to his adoptive parents. Hannah was sure that she was doing the right thing. Before she signed her baby over, she recorded a sweet message for him.
She shared the video two years after the adoption.
In it, she says:
“From the day your Daddy died, I had a hard time even considering placing you with a different family when you were my last piece of Kaden. I’m going to give you all the kisses I can before I sign you away to Brad and Emily. I love you, Taggart Cayden Marsh. My little boy. My son. I love you so much. Love your mommy, Hannah.”
Luckily, Hannah was able to arrange an open adoption, which means she still gets to be a part of her son’s life.
In fact, Hannah and his adoptive mom, Emily, have become really good friends. They live close to each other, and Hannah even gets to babysit Taggart regularly. The way she sees it, she didn’t lose her family; she gained a new one.
She explained:
“Rather than ‘giving him up’ or ‘away,’ I just adopted his entire family into mine. Including his extended family. We just grew, and everyone loves each other as if we’ve always been family. His mom, Emily, is still one of my best friends in the whole world. She honestly is everything I want to be as a person and a mother. I am so grateful that Tagg led me to her and their family.”
Hannah says that giving her baby up for adoption wasn’t easy, but she knew it was the right thing.
She hopes that her story will help other young moms make the right choice and let others know what a mother goes through when she gives her baby to another family. She wrote:
“I hope anyone who watches this will be able to gain a new perspective on what the birth mom goes through when she places her child for adoption. It is the FARTHEST thing from a heartless act. It shows the definition of love. To love someone this much is to give away your happiness for them.”
Hannah is thrilled that she gets to spend so much time with Taggart and that he won’t grow up wondering who or where she is.
She also knows that someday she will be in a position to raise a child. She said:
‘I’ve wanted to be a mom my whole life; it was something I always knew I would do, but the timing was so wrong.”
Taggart’s adoptive mother, Emily, is grateful for the amazing gift that Hannah has given her.
She is happy to have Hannah in her life, as well. When she saw the video, she said:
“It is so comforting to know that Tag has that to watch and that he will know how loved he always is by Hannah. We really see everything that Hannah has done for us as the greatest gift.”
Taggart will always have the love of his birth mother and his adoptive family. Emily and Brad have two other children whom they also have open adoptions with. They are thankful to each of their birth mothers for letting them raise their amazing kids.
