In the United States, over 400,000 children and youth are in foster care.
They are all waiting to be adopted by families before they age out of the system. Unfortunately, the outcomes for those who do age out of the system without a family are often dismal, including a higher chance of being homeless, and having a higher risk of being incarcerated.
WSLS 10 News in Virginia is doing its part to help foster children in Virginia get adopted by profiling foster children during a segment called “30 Days of Hope.”
One of their profiles featured three siblings who are hoping to be adopted together.
Meet Justus, Analea, and Canyon, three teenage siblings who are currently in foster care.
Justus is fifteen years old and is the protective big brother of Analea and Canyon. He is social, outgoing, and athletic. Justus enjoys playing baseball and is also part of his community soccer team.
“I’m most proud of moving forward from bad times and my self-confidence,” Justus told the network.
He said he wants to be part of a family with his siblings and people that will let him be who he wants to be.
Justus hopes to become an attorney when he grows up so he can help others.
Analea and Canyon are energetic thirteen-year-old twins.
When asked about themselves, Analea shared that her favorite animal is a llama.
“The thing I’m most proud of about myself is that I always get good grades,” Analea said.
Her brother Canyon quickly chimed in, “This girl got A,B, honor roll five years in a row.”
Analea said that her best trait is her sense of humor. She also said that one of her wishes is to become a trillionaire and donate money to charities.
Her dream is to go to college and become a veterinarian.
She enjoys baking, coloring, and watching soccer.
Canyon said, “Belonging to a family to me means being someone who is very happy with kids.” He enjoys reading books, drawing, and jumping on the trampoline.
Canyon loves to cook grilled cheese sandwiches and spending time with his family.
In the video, you can tell that they are happy and energetic children, despite their life circumstances. It is heartwarming to see that the siblings are close to one another, even with the challenges they’ve been through.
The three sibling also shared that they love God and are passionate about their faith.
We commend 10News for this initiative that aims to raise awareness about foster children and adoption in Virginia.
There are too many children stuck in the foster care system who need help.
Our hope is that someone reading this will want to consider adoption, specifically adopting Justus, Analea, and Canyon together.
Being adopted together will give them the opportunity to grow and mature with each other, and at the same time, continue to rely on each other.
