Over the bridge and through the chorus, to a masterpiece

And she knows the song well. Without missing a beat, she hops right into a sing-song rendition of the chorus. The familiar tune is instantly recognizable and it’s clear that Maya is having a blast belting it out.

The song may be over, but this girl isn’t done yet

As she moves from the chorus to the bridge and the lyrics beyond, you can see her looking at her father. You can almost imagine how proud he must be of his talented little girl. It must have taken him so much to keep holding the camera rather than reaching down to give her a hug. But then, as she finishes the song she looks at her father as if asking, “What’s next?”

This little girl is already a pro

Maya then switches tracks and goes into a rendition of the ABC song. Even if she misses a few of the lines, you can tell that she’s proud of her memory and carries the tune with pride. If you listen, you might just hear her dad’s smile when he tells her that she did great!

Little girl shows remarkable command

As Maya bounces from song to song, she shows off her surprising command of vocabulary and melody. She sings through words that would challenge children twice her age with a skill and energy that’s impressive. Maybe it’s not even the words, maybe she just loves singing and is going to show it off no matter what.

She couldn’t have it done it without his help

While Maya is clearly the star of the show in this video, let’s not forget her dad. The unsung hero gets a lot of props for encouraging his daughter to sing. The way he proposes song after song while making sure to offer praise is a show of great parenting.

It’s also telling that he offers a variety of songs from quite a few different genres. He doesn’t just stick to simple nursery rhymes and listens patiently as she works through familiar or challenging lyrics. Parents and guardians will tell you that this is how you can help a child become more comfortable and willing to tackle challenge and speak publicly.

Maya is what happens when you encourage a child to explore their talents and interests. She’s also an example of a child’s ability to soak up and master information quickly. If she’s this talented now, how far will she go in the future?
