Anyone who’s ever had a toddler, and had to try convince them to eat something they don’t like will tell you the same thing. They’ll tell you that it is certainly not easy. They will tell you that trying to convince a stubborn toddler to do something they refuse to do, whether it’s eat their vegetables, or pick up their toys, it is near impossible.
Sometimes as a parent, you just have to take matters into your own hands…literally.
So when this two-year-old decided that she was not up for walking into the house, it was going to take a little more than a little persuasion to get the job done.
Having just arrived home from kindergarten after being picked up by Dad on his way home from work, Juliette made the decision that she had done enough walking for one day.
While Dad unloaded the grocery shopping, Juliette remained flat on her back.
This toddler, who Mom says is “A little girl who loves to laugh and make others laugh”, seems to be having a great time just chilling there in the driveway. I wonder if she lay down like that the whole time dad was shopping!
Eventually Dad finishes getting the shopping from their car, and has to face his next challenge:
What to do with this girl who refuses to get up…This is a moment every parent of toddlers would recognize. The very moment when you know your child will not budge. Do you try convince them, yourself becoming increasingly agitated? Do you give them the cold shoulder knowing they will eventually follow you? Or, do you use brute strength to carry them in yourself?
Well that last option might seem a little unexpected . . .
But resorting to using your strength can actually be harmless, and hilarious. This exasperated dad, without thinking about it too long at all, grips her by the front of her jacket and picks her up like one of the shopping bags.
All the while, Juliette remains limp, happily being transported.
Hey, obstinance may not be so bad! Sometimes it could even get you a free lift. Dad seems to just be living the “same-old, same-old”, as he carries his daughter expressionlessly back to the house.
Juliette seems to either be resigned to this course of events, or she’s rather enjoying it!
Well if she didn’t want to have to walk, I guess she’s off the hook. Why wouldn’t you enjoy being literally carried back to the warm house instead of having to trudge back through the cold yourself? Seems like this toddler has cracked the system.
Is that a smile you can see on Juliette’s face?
If it isn’t, then it should be, as somehow she came out on top of this little exercise in opposition. Luckily, her parents are able to see the funny side of her behavior, with Mom writing:
“What’s even funnier is that she is more than 3-feet-tall and over 37 pounds heavy and the jacket didn’t break. She often does stuff like this and this is just how we love her.”
At the end of the day, this truly is an uplifting tale!
