Moms and dads are always teaching their children to be weary of strangers who try to bribe them with things like toys, candy, or even a slice of pepperoni pizza.

But Lindsey Sheely’s ornery 2-year-old kiddo, who was caught being a little bit too friendly on his family’s doorbell camera, did the exact opposite of running away.

When Peter Catterson knocked on the front door, he probably thought it was just going to be another routine pizza delivery. But, when the little man of the house rushed out onto the porch and started waving his tiny fist up in the air, his day suddenly went from average to extraordinary!

The excited little boy, whose name is Cohen, wasn’t trying slip Ryan a tip. Instead, he wanted to give the pizza guy a big teddy bear hug, which as you’ll soon learn why was even better than getting a fiver!

Mom Linsdey can be seen running after her son and scooping him up, but by then it was too late. The delightfully cute interaction had already happened.

The proud mom immediately shared what she thought was just a funny video of her son doing his thing on her Instagram stories.

However, after the video made its rounds on social media and got back to Ryan, that’s when the real story broke!

The Sheely family had no idea that Ryan had unexpectedly lost his 16-year-old daughter the week prior.

The girl lived with his ex-wife in California, and sadly the teen had struggled with mental health issues.

The impromptu hug from Cohen, although seemingly innocent on the surface, came at a time when Ryan desperately needed it, and it touched him very deeply.

“After losing my daughter this past week, it touched me because it was like she was there. It really just meant a lot to me.”

Ryan’s ex-wife, Danielle McCord, says that this amazing 2-year-old kid has taught everyone a lesson with his heartfelt hug that was felt around the world.

“It’s so easy to miss people and their internal pain. Even with our daughter, we didn’t know her pain. I can’t help but be grateful that someone saw his pain and was able to be there for him.”

For Ryan, the days, weeks, and months ahead are going to be difficult no matter what.

“It’s going to be tough not going to be able to hug her again.”

Even though the little boy’s embrace may have only lasted a few seconds, it was a precious moment that Ryan will never forget.

“A lot of people are commenting that may have been her looking out for me. Those words mean something. Maybe she’s there.”

As adults we tend to think we’re the ones teaching kids about life, but in reality the opposite is true, too. It turns out that children are also amazing teachers and messengers! They’re just shorter and come with less wrinkles.

And Lindsey couldn’t be more proud of her smooth little short stop:

“That hug from Cohen was a little blessing from God. I believe in divine appointments and know that Ryan was the one to deliver our pizza for a reason.”
