A photo went viral where a toddler was seen bonding with a stranger at a US airport when their flight was delayed. And that echoed a positive messaged that we could all use.
Motivational speaker Kevin Armentrout was on his way from Las Vegas to San Diego with his wife and 16-month-old daughter Carter Jean when the delay took place and the moment was captured.
His adorable toddler was walking around the waiting area, exploring the sights and sounds, when she bumped into Joseph Wright, who was also waiting to get on his plane.
Wright saw Carter and he asked her if she wanted to take the seat next to him. The unlikely pair soon began talking about Snoopy, all while sharing snacks and cartoons for nearly an hour.
“Watching them in that moment, I couldn’t help but think, different genders, different races, different generations, and the best of friends. This is the world I want for her,” Armentrout wrote.
A child and a grown man who never knew the other existed made the world take notice of an unplanned moment.
“It just warmed my heart a little,” Wright told Good Morning America. “I get a kick out of young kids who are just growing and showing love.”
Kevin took a picture and shared the interaction on Facebook.
He wrote, “Last night, while waiting to board our plane, @_carterjean_ was being her usual inquisitive self wanting to meet and say “hi” to everyone she could, until she walked up on this man. He reached out and asked if she wanted to sit with him.” From there, the two bonded over cartoons and snacks.
You can see Wright pointing to something on his tablet, having to lean just so he could bring himself down to the child’s size. And Carter Jean, stylus in hand, had the sweetest smile on her adorable face.
The post naturally went viral, with over 313,000 likes and 124,000 shares in just a few days after posting.
Armentrout said, “In a country that is continuously fed that it’s so deeply divided by beliefs, I want her life to be filled with moments like this… not liberal or conservative republican or democrat, socialist or capitalist, just HUMAN.”
Perhaps it’s time people really took notice.
Armentrout did attract a few negative comments since he mentioned race, but he says that he believes we should all embrace differences instead of ignoring and pretending that they don’t exist.
Wright went on to say that he was “proud of Kevin and his wife for not being the same, not holding back, letting her see the world as it should be.”
Armentrout added a message of thanks directed to Wright on his post: “Joseph from @samsungus in Oklahoma, if this should happen to find you. Thank you for showing my daughter what kindness and compassion looks like. Continue to shine your light in the world. #HateIsLearned”
It’s amazing what a small child can do.
