For new parents, bringing one baby into the world is stressful enough— but two is hard to wrap your head around. The parents of newborn twins Caleb and Weston Lyman where trying to do just that when they captured an unexpectedly adorable moment that has quickly gone viral.
The footage, filmed by father Dane Lyman, shows the babies only mere minutes after their birth.
They had just snuggled with mom before being placed down on the nurse’s table for a little health check. Like most babies, the twins immediately cry when taken from their mother— but then, the magic occurs.
In the video, you see the babies instantly soothe themselves the moment a nurse places one on the other’s cheek.
The contrast is stunning— watching them go from purple-faced screams to instant contentment in less than two seconds flat.
Afterward, in an interview with Fox News, Dane revealed:
“My wife wasn’t able to see that, and I didn’t even know it was happening.”
“When I showed her, she was emotional and grateful I captured that moment. We both still tear up when we watch it.”
During the 14-second clip, the inconsolable babies immediately quiet when they feel the presence of their twin. The nurse’s actions showed them they were still together— and that despite the scary experience, everything would be okay.
Most people know twins share an unimaginable bond. However, researchers are increasingly learning just how deep it really goes. In an article by The Deseret News, authors describe a study conducted in 2010. In it, researchers determined twins interact with each other socially as early as 14 weeks of gestation. Scientific American (obtained via The Deseret News) noted:
“The results suggest that twin fetuses are aware of their counterparts in the womb, that they prefer to interact with them, and that they respond to them in special ways.”
According to Fox News, the twins, Caleb and Weston, were born prematurely on February 25th. They have two big sisters, Corrine and Amelia, waiting for them at home, and their family loves them very much.
When Dane posted the video to his Facebook page, it immediately went viral. “One of our greatest hopes when we found out we were having twins was that, as they grew, they would be good friends and support one another,” he wrote alongside the clip.
“Seeing them comfort each other just moments after birth was almost like the first step in that special relationship.”
“They recognized each other immediately, having previously formed that special relationship.”
Since being uploaded to YouTube, Dane’s adorable video has been viewed thousands of times.
Most people who watch are enamored with the natural, twin connection, leaving comments such as:
“I wish I had a twin brother so that I wouldn’t feel alone ever.”
“I’m an identical twin. Me and my brother are always there for each other and can never be separated. He’s a part of me I couldn’t live without.”
