A child being born is one of the most beautiful things there is in life, especially for the parents. Newlyweds Bethani and Tim Webb from Alberta were delighted to learn that they would be raising a child of their own, but when they went in for a routine ultrasound check, they had the surprise of their lives.

Three months after Bethani got pregnant, the ultrasound revealed not one baby, but four!

Identical quadruplets are extremely rare, so rare in fact, that the nurse estimated the chances of conceiving naturally is only one in fifteen million. Nobody could believe their eyes when they saw the ultrasound – Bethani and Tim would be raising four identical baby girls.

“It was completely and totally natural. It was very spontaneous,” Bethani said to TODAY. “She turned the screen and she started counting babies and she counted baby one, baby two, baby three and baby four.”

“I’m definitely glad I was laying down because I could not believe that there were four there. I thought there had to be some kind of mistake… (my husband) almost fainted. He had to sit down for a moment.”

Bethani and Tim don’t have any history of multiples in their respective families, which made it an even bigger surprise.

After 33 weeks of pregnancy, Bethani gave birth to four beautiful girls.

Abigail, McKayla, Grace, and Emily were welcomed to the world via a cesarean section in an Edmonton hospital. Although the babies did have to stay in the neonatal intensive care unit for a couple of weeks because they were born early, there weren’t any severe health issues or complications.

“With the high-risk nature of the pregnancy there was always talk that there was some risk of delivering very early,” said Dr. Billy Wong said to CTV. “For us to get to this date in the pregnancy, almost 33 weeks, we were actually very fortunate.”

Funnily enough, the parents have a hard time telling them apart. Luckily, they’ve found just the perfect solution.

“At this point, I’m not able to tell them apart,” mom said. “We’re going to paint their toenails and assign them each a color.”

The four girls and their parents are now doing well, even though it can be a lot of work to raise quadruplets. The Webb family could count on numerous donations from friends, family and the neighborhood including money for a bigger car and tons of diapers and clothing.

“It’s a little overwhelming knowing that I’m taking care of four little babies,” Bethani said. “But it’ll be good. Once they get home and I get into a routine, I’m sure it won’t be too bad.”

Life can certainly have its wonderful surprises and this family of six couldn’t be any happier.
