Abortion can bring out some very strong opinions in people. The debate has gone on for decades, and it gets no less divisive as time goes on.
Look no further than the recent backlash to the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. How about we look to the opposite end of things today and see what it’s like?

This is the story of Melissa Ohden, a woman who was meant to be aborted as a baby.
Melissa learned of the shocking revelation when she was a teenager. Certainly, that’s a lot to have on your shoulders and it definitely hit her really hard.

She experienced the feeling of never being wanted in the first place, she described.
It was a giant blow to her mental health, and she barely held on. Melissa did what most people do to cope with such feelings. She turned to addictions.
Melissa took to alcohol, bulimia, and sex to deal with the plethora of emotions she experienced. They were what she called her “unholy trinity” of coping mechanisms.
Years ago, her mother tried to have her aborted via saline injection.
Saline injections are a form of abortion under the category of abortion by instillation. It usually works, but has fallen out of use in favor of other abortion methods.
Notice how I said, “usually works.”
When the procedure was done on Melissa on that day, it wasn’t successful. But it did look like it.
The baby Melissa survived the abortion but was nearly discarded since they thought she wasn’t alive.
They nearly tossed her away before a nurse heard that the baby was still making faint noises. That’s how she survived and later became adopted into a new family.
Now 45, Melissa spent a lot of time coming to terms with this fact. Perhaps unsurprisingly, she is pro-life.

She attributes her recovery and acceptance to the grace of God. Without it, she says she wouldn’t have made it.
It’s not every day you hear the opinion of an abortion survivor.
Even if you aren’t pro-life, you can at least understand why Melissa is.
Melissa wrote a book as well if her thoughts interest you. She calls it “You Carried Me: A Daughter’s Memoir.” It contains all the details of the abortion she learned she survived, and how she came to terms and made peace with it.

In case you’re wondering, Melissa did eventually find her birth mother.
Her mother was only 19 when she had Melissa, and was “pressured” into having the abortion. If that’s the case, she might’ve been happy to see Melissa was alive.
In fact, Melissa says her love for her birth mom “deepens” every year. That’s good to hear!
“It was life-changing. I will never forget the moment that I saw her and we got to embrace – and I think the words that came out of my mouth were ‘It’s been a long time.'” – she said
