Eric and Courtney Waldrop are the parents of 3 beautiful boys, but Courtney, a first-grade teacher had always dreamed of having a daughter of her own.
For women, sons are often too rough-and-tumble and rambunctious. Not to mention, most people grow up imagining themselves sharing their wisdom with their child of the same sex— so it’s no surprise that while Courtney loves her 3 boys, she was really hoping for a girl.
The pair had tried getting pregnant multiple times, but after a miscarriage in January of 2017, they opted for a low-dose treatment of fertility medication. Although Eric and Courtney both knew multiple births were common with fertility treatments, The Gadsden Times explains that the Albertville couple wasn’t very concerned about the possibility.
When the pair eventually attended Courtney’s first ultrasound, however— they were SHOCKED.
“It was the shock of our lives,” Courtney tells The Gadsden Times. “They saw six [placental] sacs.”
They weren’t just having one or two babies— they were having 6!
Sextuplets!
But the couple wasn’t exactly thrilled with the development. Courtney explains, “This was nothing we ever expected or wanted. We were upset and scared.”
The situation is especially terrifying considering all the health risks involved in a sextuplet pregnancy.
Facts About Multiple Births (via VeryWell) says that almost all sextuplet pregnancies end up resulting in a C-section. In fact, there have only ever been 3 cases (ever) of a mother giving birth via natural delivery in these circumstances.
Courtney says that she and Eric have now accepted whatever life may bring them. She tells The Gadsden Times, “We prayed about it. We just turned it all over to God.”
“God has given us these babies, and He has a plan,” she said, “and it’s bigger than ours was.”
