Pregnancy is often romanticized in society— and while the end results are beautiful, the process of getting there isn’t that great.
Despite all the talk about the pregnancy “glow”, any mother can tell you that nausea, hormones, an aching back and swollen feet are all part of the equation. But for those expecting twins or triplets? Well, the effects are much more pronounced…
A mother from Denmark recently went viral for showing the realities of pregnancy.
Maria, who already shares a son with her husband, was shocked when she discovered she had conceived triplets without the help of fertility treatment. According to doctors, the chances of this occurring naturally are 1 in 4,400.
After getting the news, Maria started chronicling the pregnancy on her @triplets_of_copenhagen Instagram account.
On the page, Maria shares the highs and lows of pregnancy— her candid honesty winning her thousands of followers.
Even without the heartfelt revelations, her giant belly’s enough to grab attention.
In a post, she wrote: “I’m glad we took these pictures because this collage really shows the massive growth.”
“It’s strange to have ended up with such a big belly, and it’s even stranger that it can stand out like that without falling down.”
Maria’s triplets were born via C-section last month on September 12th.
The couple had two girls, Iben and Agnes, and a son named Filip.
Although the triplets had to endure a brief stay in the NICU, they were all healthy. Iben, the smallest baby weighed 4 pounds and 32 ounces (1950 grams).
In a post, the new parents gushed:
“We are so in love with our miniature babies. They have the cutest little faces!”
Maria’s body drastically changed throughout her pregnancy, and the recovery wasn’t any easier. Four days after giving birth, the new mother revealed she hadn’t been able to walk due to the pain of the C-section and said she could feel her bowels “twisting and turning like snakes.”
After nine days in the NICU, the triplets were able to go home.
As you can imagine, life with triplets and a toddler hasn’t been easy, but extended family has been helping until the couple can manage on their own.
Congrats to the new parents!
We can’t wait to see more of the baby’s adventures in the world!
