For most of us, housework isn’t our favorite thing to do. Yet, it must always be done.

Laundry and dishes can seem to pile up just as fast as we wash them.

It’s something parents like Lily Potkin knows all too well.

And Potkin, who goes by Miss Potkin on Twitter, was sick of it. She had enough. So, she went on strike which ended up going viral on Twitter.

It started as her refusal to do the dishes and to see how much time would pass before someone else in her family took the initiative to do the dishes.

But Potkin eventually brought her followers on a three-day journey documenting her household’s descent into a state of messy chaos.

She learned a lot during those three days, like how no one else in the house was willing to change the toilet paper roll.

Potkin’s family also learned a lot. Like how to clean up after themselves and not take mom for granted.

Her first Tweet came in at 6:18 p.m. on March 17 explaining that she decided to stop doing the dishes two days prior. The photo was evidence of what had happened since.

“I make all the dinners and I am tired of having to do all the cleaning too. SINCE THEN this pile has appeared and at some point they are going to run out of spoons and cups and plates. Who will blink first? NOT ME F***ers,” Potkin wrote in her first Tweet which got 191,400 likes.

After that, the dishes kept piling up it looks like the spoons ran out first because dad was using the baby’s spoon to make a cup of team.

This mom was not playing around. It was on. They were about to feel the wrath of a household with mom on strike.

A few hours later, mom decided that she wasn’t going to do the laundry either.

“Let me know when you want to talk about the fact that I stopped doing the laundry too. It’s getting a bit post-apocalyptic. The piles are everywhere,” she wrote.

Well, it just started to pile up in different spots around the house. Stuff started to fall apart pretty quickly from there.

And Potkin was loving every minute of it.

“SOMEONE JUST FORGOT THAT THERE’S NO TOILET ROLL IN THE DOWNSTAIRS LOO. Omg this is exciting.”

Eventually, her family realized that they can’t function without mom and maybe they should pitch in and give her a helping hand.

That’s how dad learned “the joy of scraping rock-hard old cereal off a bowl.”

Slowly but surely her house started to turn around without her lifting a finger. By 9:15 p.m. the entire house was looking spic and span.

“WE MADE IT! (I’m not doing that again). 3 days. 3 days of not washing or pickup or tidying. You’re gonna have good days, bad days, and a lot of f*** it days, but people don’t like being taken for granted, especially by the ones they love the most. Period.”

To her surprise, Potkin’s family ended up getting really into this whole cleaning thing. She’s just not sure yet if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
