Have you ever texted the wrong number by mistake?
Although it’s a common occurrence, texting the wrong number usually doesn’t lead to more than an awkward apology.
But things went a little bit differently for the Lashley family.
When Lindsey and Mark Lashley were giving birth to their son Carson in a Brainbridge, Georgia, hospital, Mark’s mother Teresa was understandably thrilled.
During the birth, Teresa excitedly uses a group text to update family about Lindsey’s labor.
She writes:
“We are at the hospital. Having a baby today! She has dilated to between 5-6.”
What Teresa doesn’t realize though, is that she is also texting a complete stranger.
The stranger, twenty-one-year-old Dennis Williams, tries to tell Teresa that she has made a mistake, but the excited grandmother continues to tell him the news.
In an interview with Daily Mail Online, Teresa explains:
“The reason it happened was my cousin had a new phone and I guess the boys ended up with her old number.”
Most people would have just stopped responding to Teresa’s texts, but not Dennis.
The conversation ends with the family giving Dennis their hospital room number.
At this point, as Mark tells Daily Mail Online, the proud grandmother still did not realize her mistake.
He explains:
“She thought she was still talking to my cousin, that’s who she thought she was talking to.”
In light of Teresa’s confusion, you can imagine the shock when two strangers arrived at the hospital bearing gifts for the new family.
During the hospital meeting, Mark and Lindsey pose with Dennis and Deorick for a photo which Teresa later posts to Facebook.
Alongside the photo, Teresa explains the situation and writes:
“What a blessing these two guys were to the family. They were so sweet and kind to do this! You are 2 great guys and thank you for giving to someone you didn’t know… If we all only had this kind of heart.”
Dennis and Deorick find Teresa’s post and share it on their own individual Facebook pages. Deorick’s repost alone has garnered over 210k shares to date.
According to People, the two young brothers spent a bit of time “reveling in their newfound fame” and Lyndsey and Mark are happily enjoying their new life as a family of three. When speaking of the events, Dennis has stated simply:
“You do good and you’ll have good karma.”
Wow, what a great example of the kindness of the strangers!
