“God our Father, God our Father, we thank you, we thank you, for our many blessings, for our many blessings, Amen, Amen.”
A Waffle House in Prattsville, Alabama was serving up more than just breakfast when a little 5-year-old boy sat down next to a homeless man and asked if he could pray with him.
Some people like to pretend that homeless people don’t exist, and they just ignore them completely. But Ava Faulk and her son took full notice of the homeless man they spotted sitting outside a local Waffle House.
She told WFSA 12 News:
“We saw a man who was dirty holding a bag with his bike outside.”
Little Josiah Duncan had been taught that we’re all God’s creatures, and he was confused about the man’s disheveled appearance. So that’s when the concerned little guy fired off a volley of questions!
Ava tried to explain to her son that the man was homeless, but he didn’t even know what that word meant.
“Well, that means he doesn’t have a home.”
Wait, there’s people out there who don’t someplace to live? Yep, and sadly in this case, the unnamed man didn’t seem to have any friends in his life, either.
The boy continued to pepper mom with question after question, which all curious children tend to do, especially when they see a problem that grownups aren’t fixing!
“Where is his house? Where is his family? Where does he keep his groceries?”
Even after mom answered all his questions, there was still something that troubled the 5-year-old.
There was a hungry man standing right in front of a Waffle House, where there was plenty of food, and yet he was starving.
In his innocent, un-jaded world, that did not compute.
Josiah and his big ol’ heart weren’t having any of that nonsense! He felt a deep-seeded need to offer a helping hand, so he asked his mother to buy the man a hearty meal.
Of course, it didn’t take much for Ava to cave in to her son’s kindhearted demands. After all, it was the right thing to do!
Sadly, after the man sat down at a table, none of the wait staff came over to take the man’s order. Josiah was totally unnerved by their disdain, and took it as a sign from above to serve as a host.
“He came in and sat down, and nobody really waited on him. So Josiah jumped up and asked him if he needed a menu because you can’t order without one.”
And that blessing came in the form of a prayer that Josiah happily sang.
“God our Father, God our Father, we thank you, we thank you, for our many blessings, for our many blessings, Amen, Amen.”
The man, who was grateful for both the meal and prayers, went away with a full belly, a full heart and a tearful smile on his face. The man was so touched when he heard Josiah’s prayer that he broke down in tears, and everyone else in Waffle House were quick to follow his actions upon hearing and seeing the touching sight firsthand.
As for Ava, she believed that everyone was touched with a bit of divine wisdom, from an old soul living in a young boy’s body.
“You never know who the angel on Earth is, and when the opportunity comes you should never walk away from it.”
“Watching my son touch the 11 people in that Waffle House tonight will be forever one of the greatest accomplishments as a parent I’ll ever get to witness.”
