14 precious adoptees, members of the Atherton family, recently took the time to show appreciation to their loving parents.
The Atherton family’s unlike most. Not only is it huge, but it’s multi-national, featuring siblings originally from across the globe, including Ethiopia, South Korea, and Haiti.
That’s one incredible, international family!
But despite their differences in appearance, they love each other unconditionally.
They acknowledge that their lives would be completely different without the love of their beautiful parents, Chris and Bob Atherton.
Their kids think the world of them.
Mr. and Mrs. Atherton are classic givers. They act kind towards others without ever asking for recognition or anything in return.
Since their marriage, they’ve opted to grow their family through adoption.
They’ve undeniably raised some beautiful children.
Meet Becca, one of the Atherton siblings. She was born with a heart defect.
“I was given a thirteen percent chance of living to the age of five. I beat it by 20 years.”
Becca’s life’s been a struggle since the very beginning, but the support of her adopted parents has kept her going – and flourishing.
Despite her cardiac struggles, she has a beautiful, tender heart.
“My parents give constantly. And it’s in a way where they don’t get the attention or recognition because they don’t want it. And we’re like alright so how do we show them that we appreciate them?”
Good question! How can they show their unwavering appreciation for Mom and Dad?
Well, the siblings decide to recreate the entire family room.
The original’s honestly not half bad, but Becca and her siblings know how to turn good into great.
Here’s how the family room used to look.
So how are they going to redo the entire living room? That’s an incredibly daunting task. The room’s huge, too!
Time to call in some help.
They contact Jenny, a local interior decorator, to help with their big plans.
Along with Jenny, the siblings put together an interior decoration plan unbeknownst to their parents.
Literally everything’s going to be updated – the couches, rug, picture frames, television, etc…
Then comes the fateful day… Time to show Mom and Dad the new family room.
The results? Yeah, they’re fantastic.
The transformation’s remarkable.
Mom and Dad are absolutely astonished.
They’re deeply appreciative of their thoughtful children.
Becca’s incredible words read like poetry.
“There’s a saying that blood is thicker than water but I’m adopted so none of these people are blood-related to me but they are my family and I would do anything for them and I know that they would do anything for me.”
Home really is where the heart is.
Despite their varied skin tones and backgrounds, each member of the Atherton family loves each other unconditionally.
The Athertons are the model family. There’s nothing but love across the board.
Bob and Chris certainly adore the new family room.
Plus, it’s perfect for family game nights!
