Acting like we understand babies is an essential part of being an adult.

When there is a baby around and they are making all the noises possible (some may call it gibberish), responding to them like they are talking in perfect English is basically necessary!

Babies love it and so do adults!

This adorable video shows us just how cute and fun talking to your baby can be.

It also might be important for their development!

If it is, Casey Mariez and her baby are on the fast track to really talking.

Casey decided to film her having a conversation with her daughter.

Her baby at the time was 7-months-old an is as adorable as she could be.

Right up until a year and a half, babies are at their cutest (of course, this is just opinion).

As we all know, however, around a year and a half to two, their hair has grown out and the infamous “baby mullet” makes its appearance!

Still, this little girl is before all that craziness and is still learning to talk and walk.

Her mom decided she was going to film a little something cute and ended up getting way more than she bargained for!

As she films, her baby “talks” to her like she fully understands how to speak!

It’s all baby talk, of course, but the baby doesn’t know that.

Casey responds to her baby like she fully comprehends her.

As an adult should, Casey pretends not to notice that she doesn’t understand the gibberish.

Instead, she responds with things like “oh ya? Wow. Is that so?”, allowing the baby to learn and engage with the conversation!

The baby really gets into the conversation!

While she was probably trying to argue a case why she deserves at LEAST 2X the milk she’s currently getting, her mom just smiles and nods, responding to her in her own baby talk.

Babies talking like this is super important for their development!

Parenting.com says that when your baby starts to add consonants into their speech, it’s a big milestone!

When your baby begins to add in consonants, it means she’s now able to produce a full repertoire of sounds–a major linguistic milestone. “It’s harder to produce consonants because they require interaction between the tongue and the lips,” says Roberta Golinkoff, Ph.D., director of the University of Delaware Infant Language Project in Newark. “It’s a big deal.”

You know what else they say? Talk back to them!

Narrate the sights you see on your drive or your daily plans (“We’re going to the store for some milk, and then Daddy’s taking you to the park!”). Talking to a non-talker may feel bizarre, but research has found that infants actually understand far more than we realize. In one study, 6-month-olds who heard the word “mommy” responded by looking at a picture of their mom.

As we can see, this mom seems to be doing exactly that!

Who knew that playing pretend was an essential part of your baby hitting proper speech milestones?

Check out their adorable conversation in the video below!
