Babies say their first words at around 6 to 14 months. This is why a lot of parents try hard to keep a camera close by when their little ones reach this age. They want to make sure that they’ll be able to record their babies’ first words.
As babies grow, they make tons of communicative noises.
They coo and gurgle. They cry and they squeal. This makes it hard to determine their actual first word.
At about 6 months, babies start babbling in ways that are very speech-like in sound.
Some babies are able to intentionally speak by the time they reach this age. They can put together really simple syllables like “ba ba” to ask for a bottle of milk. Some babies can say “ma ma” and “pa pa” at this age, too.
An 8-week-old baby is leaving a lot of people in a huge debate.
Her video has over 49 million views since it was uploaded. Compared with other videos on YouTube, that’s a lot of views.
In the video, the baby can be seen looking straight into a camera.
Her parents did an awesome job capturing the “incident” on camera. She’s wearing a white onesie with lots of hearts and a pink bib. Honestly, she looks super adorable.
The video seemed like a usual interaction between a mom and her baby.
They were talking about last Christmas. Her mom was asking her if she had a great and if she was able to get everything she wanted. Even though the baby can’t communicate yet, it’s clear that she’s able to understand her mom and what she’s saying.
The mom said:
“I’m glad you had fun. I’m glad you had a great time.”
The baby didn’t answer but she flashed a very beautiful smile.
“Mama loves you. I love you,” her mom continued.
The baby said ‘I love you’.
Well, it’s not really clear if that’s what she said. But if you’re going to ask her mom and most people who’ve watched the video, they’d say yes. The baby said those words and it just melted her parents’ hearts.
Encouraging babies to talk
Believe it or not, talking to your baby encourages him to talk as well. Looking into your baby’s eyes and smiling a lot at him helps, too.
In addition to that, Raising Children suggests that play gives parents a lot of opportunities to encourage their babies to talk. The more you play and talk, the more words your baby will be able to hear. Ultimately, this helps develop your baby’s brain and talking skills.
Apart from playtime, you can also talk to your baby as you’re completing your tasks at home. Do it while washing the dishes, vacuuming the carpet, or arranging his toys.
And if your baby starts babbling and cooking, praise him. It doesn’t matter if they’re able to speak a real word or not. Just acknowledge your baby’s effort to talk. It’s a big help for him.
